About us
We lead so others can succeed. As the leader and peak body in child and family services in Tasmania and Victoria, The Centre for Excellence in Child and Family Welfare (the Centre) proudly represents over 150 organisations, spanning community service organisations from proactive prevention and early intervention to the critical provision of out-of-home care. As the voice of organisations and individuals dedicated to advancing child and family wellbeing, we set the standards for practice and professional development in child and family services. Policy and ideas: Develop, influence and advocate for public policies that advance the rights and wellbeing of children, young people and families and address the social, economic and cultural barriers to improving their lives. Research and practice: Lead and share research to support innovation and evidence-informed practice. Capacity building: Strengthen the capacity of organisations to provide services that best suit the needs of children and families experiencing vulnerability.

Be proactive with keeping your child’s information safe as the 2025 school year gets under way. #backtoschool
Keen to share back-to-school photos of your children on social media? Watch this quick guide before you hit send. The AFP has seen non-explicit pictures of children and young people being used in text-based child abuse material, and offenders using information from photos, such as school uniforms or identifiable surroundings, to find and groom children and young people. While these incidents are rare, the sad reality is they do happen, so be proactive with keeping your child’s information safe as the 2025 school year gets under way. ✅ Check your privacy settings and make sure your social media accounts are secure. ✅ Keep your child’s uniform logo hidden. ✅ Ensure the background doesn’t give away your address or location. ✅ Keep your child’s personal information, including full name and age, private.

Last week, the Centre, alongside foster carer Lisa, had the opportunity to meet with Paul Edbrooke MP in Frankston to discuss how we can better support our foster and kinship carers. It’s so important that we continue working together so our carers have the resources and support they need to provide stable, loving homes for children who need them. Find out more about how we support foster carers and the young people they care for at our website: https://loom.ly/p0Qv3pM #KinshipCare #FosterCare

"Despite a stated policy goal of investing in primary prevention, child-safe strategies are mostly focused on secondary and tertiary interventions, i.e. aimed at improving the identification of and responses to sexual abuse and intervening so that further abuse does not occur ... Learning from children and young people may inform more effective prevention strategies. They have important views to share and want to play a part in shaping primary prevention efforts." Among families affected by Adolescent Violence in the Home (AVITH), school attendance issues can have an effect on adolescent aggression — resulting in a complex dynamic with interconnected challenges.
