Congrats to these young legends! 👏 As recipients of the Premier’s Spirit of Anzac Prize, these students will go on a study tour to Türkiye this month, visiting important war memorials and commemorative sites. Each of the students showcased a strong understanding of the Spirit of Anzac. Their applications came in many different forms – essays, videos and artworks – exploring Australia’s war and peacekeeping history. The study tour gives the students a special chance to honour and better understand the sacrifices of those who served. On Battle for Australia Day, we remember those who defended our nation when it faced its most direct threat. In 1942 and 1943, Australian forces and our allies fought bravely in Southeast Asia and the Pacific, including at Kokoda, Milne Bay and the Coral Sea. Together, they courageously defended our borders and prevented further air attacks on Darwin, Broome, and northern Australia. Pictured are dense smoke clouds rising from oil tanks during the first Japanese air raid on the Australian mainland at Darwin. HMAS Deloraine is in the foreground and escaped damage. A wreath laying ceremony will take place at the Shrine from 11am on 4 September to recognise the men and women who defended Australia’s shores. Watch via livestream at https://lnkd.in/gZs_qWFq
