Join us for a timely and insightful webinar, "Preparing for the 2025 Government Leasing NABERS Requirements”. As the Australian Government works towards net zero operations by 2030, one of the biggest changes in 18 years is set to impact the property industry. Among other changes, the minimum NABERS Energy rating for federal government leases will increase from 4.5 to 5.5 stars. With over 3 million sqm of tenancy and $1.5 billion spent annually, the government is a major tenant, yet 86% of its current leases fall short of the upcoming requirements. Property owners must act now to optimise energy performance, improve ratings, and secure long-term leases in this increasingly competitive market. Our expert panel - Zoe Ferrari, Head of Government at CBRE Global Workplace Solutions (GWS), Ed Cotter, Director of Strategic Sustainability at JLL, and Howie Mann, VP of Product at CIM - will provide a detailed overview of the new standards, and offer practical advice on how to meet these higher benchmarks. Don't miss out on insights that will help you stay ahead in this evolving landscape! 🚀

CIM's building analytics software, the PEAK Platform, was recently deployed at the Australian Museum, Australia's first museum, which specialises in the preservation of archaeological and cultural objects, rare books and archives, and biology and geology collections. Since its establishment, the Australian Museum has grown into a world-renowned institution, housing over 22 million scientific specimens and cultural objects. The heritage-listed site not only stands as a leading cultural attraction but also serves as a dynamic hub for scientific research, education, and critical environmental and social issues, including biodiversity loss, climate change, and cultural identity. The museum's world-leading collections include important and invaluable First Nations and Pasifika cultural artefacts as well as fossils, minerals, meteorites, gemstones and Australian native animal specimens. The PEAK Platform continuously monitors plant and equipment, offering enhanced visibility and control over operational performance and indoor environment conditions. The result is a cultural institution that will remain healthy and safe for both its invaluable collections and visitors while improving sustainability performance. McKinsey's Global Energy Perspective 2024 report highlights a stark reality: we are falling short of meeting the Paris Agreement's 1.5°C climate target. With global CO₂ emissions projected to rise until at least 2025 in all scenarios, we remain far from the transformative action required. McKinsey's analysis examines four key scenarios—1.5°C Pathway, Sustainable Transformation, Continued Momentum, and Slow Evolution—each telling a compelling story about how the future could unfold. 1️⃣ The 1.5°C Pathway remains an ambitious goal that demands immediate, large-scale action, with a rapid shift to low-carbon technologies and international cooperation. 2️⃣ Sustainable Transformation offers a plausible scenario of intensified decarbonization efforts but still results in a 1.8°C temperature rise, which fails to prevent major climate risks. 3️⃣ Continued Momentum projects a temperature increase of 2.2°C, with uneven adoption of low-carbon technologies, resulting in negative social and environmental impacts. 4️⃣ Slow Evolution forecasts a 2.6°C rise, driven by fragmented efforts to decarbonize, leading to severe consequences for ecosystems and economies. The data suggests that we are currently on track for a scenario somewhere between the Continued Momentum and Slow Evolution pathways. This is a wake-up call for governments, corporations, and individuals. The energy transition is lagging in key areas such as new technology deployment and infrastructure development. Crucially, fossil fuel use continues to rise, even as the window to act narrows. Urgent and accelerated action is non-negotiable. We must scale renewable energy solutions, deploy nascent technologies, and realign our policies toward a sustainable and secure energy future. Time is running out, and the future depends on the choices we make today. Read more from McKinsey: https://lnkd.in/eEkGvB-P
