Chris Davis representing at one of the NSW Drug Summits yesterday. Let’s hope his voice is heard by state government and those in influential positions. Keep at it Chris.

I am getting ready to leave Griffith after a productive day at the first of four NSW Drug Summits (alcohol conspicuously absent from the title). I perform an AOD telehealth clinic in Griffith, offering a vital OAT prescribing service via St Vincents Hospital that the area would not otherwise have. I'm hoping that the lack of equitable access to AOD treatments in rural and remote Australia will be heard loud and clear by policy makers and innovative telehealth models, such as that offered by Clean Slate Clinic will be funded by the state.

Just wanted to interrupt our usual Clean Slate feed to share a story about who we are and some behind-the-scenes shots of our incredible team. Last week, our organisation — who work #remote across all different parts of Australia—gathered in Melbourne for a Clean Slate get-together at the zoo. We were blown away by: The camaraderie of our team: Our co-founders have created an insanely positive workplace culture where there is a great deal of respect and genuine connection among the staff. Individually, our team of doctors, nurses and operations professionals, are all extremely qualified in what they do, but also truly funny, honest and approachable people. Despite Google meets and online interactions we came together and realised we had an amazing group dynamic and shared approach to life. The positivity: The energy and optimism within the team was infectious. It's difficult to put into words, but we reckon the video of our zoo day and brunch captures it perfectly. The shared mission: It was apparent that every team member, regardless of their role, is so deeply committed to Clean Slate's goal of transforming how we treat substance dependence in Australia. There was laughter, tears, and downright dedication. Biggest takeaway - We gonna start a revolution? Hell yes! *And a disclaimer to anyone wondering ‘Are these people nuts?’ - we did an awesome interactive app experience at the Melbourne Zoo (highly recommended) where we had to be koalas 🐨, penguins 🐧 and take selfies around the zoo to complete a bunch of challenges. Suddenly felt like competitive school kids which was also hysterical and a whole lot of fun.

To everyone in our community who cares about accessibility and affordability for people with drug and alcohol dependence - please take 5 to fill out this survey. It will guide discussions in the upcoming NSW Drug Summits and will be seen by influential people in State Government. The more people that mention our services or other important NGOs and companies offering treatment for patients with AOD dependency, the closer we will get to achieving our dream of making the Clean Slate program free for those who can't afford it. https://lnkd.in/gdVuT_bQ

"Alcohol is the only addictive drug that we have to 'apologise' for not doing in social situations…" Words from Dr Chris, who recently appeared on Ticker news with some pretty insightful quotes. Chris sheds light on several important topics including: • The commonality of excessive drinking in Australia • Societal barriers to treatment, particularly shame and stigma and limited access in regional and remote areas. During covid, Dr Chris explains that many inpatient clinics scaled back operations, including his own GP practice. This led him to start using tele-health for electronic prescribing and support, and he developed a long-term 12-month recovery process for those needing support. The approach proved especially beneficial for vulnerable populations and paved the way for people to reach out discreetly without feeling judged, and for those in rural and remote areas who had little access to treatment including First Nations Australians who would prefer to stay within their communities. He also mentions the support that Clean Slate provides to Women's Shelters, who can seek online support through some partnered services. Anyway, without sharing too much (possibly already have), get watching. It's an eye-opening discussion that shows the breadth and impact of what we’re trying to achieve at Clean Slate.

Thanks for sharing Chris. Although major media outlets may often portray medicinal cannabis as a positive for those in need (which has its merits too), there are also some startling stats on high prescription rates. Worth a read when considering those with cannabis use disorder.

We explore the intense societal pressures we face in Australia when trying to drink less and delve into ways to navigate the holiday season without waking up hungover. Listen in to get your tips here, including Chris’ “emu walk” (love it!), conducting a “friends audit”, brainstorming a social event with others, and letting go of the expectations that we place on ourselves to be the party person. In short, this episode is filled with empowering strategies for anyone looking to explore an alcohol-free lifestyle during the festive season and beyond. Thank you Chris!
