Big changes could be coming to home approvals in July 2025…and if they do, the process might get a whole lot easier. As of July 2024, councils like Strathfield, Hornsby, and Ku-ring-gai now allow applications for dual occupancies (duplexes)—a big step forward for home owners looking to maximise their land. Right now, approvals can take time, but if Stage Two reforms roll out as expected, private certifiers may be able to assess and approve applications via a Complying Development Certificate (CDC)—potentially speeding things up. Nothing is set in stone yet, but if these changes continue, approvals could become much smoother and faster.
