The pulp and paper sector is uniquely positioned in the sustainability conversation – its raw materials are renewable, but its processes remain energy and water-intensive. ABB’s latest industry paper explores how digitalisation, automation, and electrification are driving real change in pulp and paper production. Featuring some great insights from industry leaders, it highlights practical steps companies can take now. We’ve been thrilled to collaborate with ABB on this significant thought leadership project – a three-part series exploring the transformation of the pulp and paper industry. 👉 Read the latest instalment here: https://lnkd.in/gHGghccG #PulpandPaper #Sustainability #Decarbonization ABB Process Automation Metsä Group Sappi Smurfit Westrock UPM Modellfabrik Papier gGmbH
The pulp and paper sector will play an important role in the decarbonization of the world. Its position is unique in that its raw material can be sustainably grown, recycled multiple times, and supports a carbon cycle. However, the papermaking process is energy-intensive and needs a large amount of water. To ensure a viable future, the sector urgently needs to reduce its carbon emissions and improve its management of resources. Today we launch the second industry paper in our Real Progress sustainability series; Real Progress in decarbonization: Pulp and paper’s journey to net zero. This paper examines the industry’s journey to net zero, with a focus on what has been achieved and what practical steps companies can take now through the digitalization, automation and electrification of processes. Featuring insights from organizations including Metsä Group, Sappi, Smurfit Westrock, UPM, Modellfabrik Papier gGmbH, METSATEOLLISUUS RY, SKOGSINDUSTRIN RF and ABB, this paper follows the first industry paper; Innovating for tomorrow: How the pulp and paper industry is turning the page for a sustainable future - https://ow.ly/zM0j50Vhfq1 We believe that our series of papers are a valuable resource to the pulp and paper sector – serving to inform and to encourage. With responsible leadership and strategic development, the pulp and paper sector will help shape a sustainable, low-carbon future. That’s Real Progress everyone will benefit from.
