Yes, because #coopsrock
We all want to live in a world where we work together with a clear vision that inspires us and guides us toward a better future. Unfortunately, global instability is reshaping the world around us, with economic and political turmoil abroad making waves at home. Australia faces growing inequality, climate disruption, housing crises, and increasingly uncertain markets. It’s easy to lose hope and forget what we are capable of. That’s why the Co-operative Assembly matters. It is where we remind ourselves of our history, the present-day examples, and the future possibilities that a better world isn’t just a dream. It is already happening through our unique and values-driven co-op model - a model that offers the answers that so many are searching for. Our model was built for this moment. In exactly one week, we will open the doors to two spectacular days across two stunning venues, bringing together 150 attendees, 40 speakers, facilitators, workshop hosts, performers, and presenters. Seven co-operative principles will guide our conversations, anchored by one bold vision for a better world. We will share in dance, music, and time together over lunches and refreshments. There will be free networking drinks and nibbles, thought-provoking debates and challenges, youth ambassadors, Indigenous leaders, sector meetings, and practical co-op workshops to choose from. See the full program on our website. Most of all, you will witness the incredible work already being done and connect with others who are shaping the future to build a better world. The 2025 International Year of Co-operatives is our moment, and this gathering is where it begins. The venue is almost at capacity - Be part of something bigger... "Homes for living..." exactly what Co-operative Housing provides! Re-investing into social and affordable housing.
There’s more to solving the housing crisis than building homes. We must curb the unfair tax breaks that cause house prices to soar. A new ACOSS report recommends halving the CGT discount and ending negative gearing, and investing the revenue raised in social and affordable housing. This would reduce home prices by 4%, a similar impact to the government's plan to build 1.2m homes. It would raise $19bn over 4yrs to fund tens of thousands of new homes, while improving wealth equity & reducing economic risks. Read the report here: https://lnkd.in/gvnbYgFW #housing #housingcrisis #auspol #taxes The Guardian 'How did Australia's housing market get so bad, and is it all negative gearing's fault? – video': https://lnkd.in/gtd5Q45Q

In the lead up to International Women's Day tomorrow during this International Year of Cooperatives, let's explore how CENSW and Co-ops support women. - CENSW and Co-op collaborate to provide housing for 420 women - 61% of our tenants over 55 are female, doing our part in minimising older women's homelessness - 30% of our Co-ops have women Chairpersons and 53% of Co-op Board Office Bearers are women - 73% of CENSW staff are women, 50% of management roles are held by women, and over 50% of the CENSW Board of Directors are women. We are proud of our strong Sector Culture of women helping women. We are also grateful to have so many female champions in the Co-operative Housing sector in NSW - women who play an active role enacting the 7 principles of co-operation while making great contributions to gender equality and women's empowerment. #MarchForward #IWD2025 #IYC2025

#LISTEN Co-Op Housing for Australia's Missing Middle Co-operative housing may be the missing piece of Australia's affordable housing puzzle. It offers a community-led, build-to-rent model that provides stability often unattainable in the private housing market. CEHL Managing Director, Liz Thomas, recently joined ABC's Victorian Statewide Mornings to talk about co-op housing, highlighting Bendigo, a thriving regional community where eight co-ops manage more than 160 properties. These homes provide secure, affordable housing outside of government programs and the private rental market. Despite its benefits, co-operative housing makes up just 1% of the country's housing stock. CEHL is committed to growing this model to 10%, providing more secure, community-driven homes. To make this a reality, we need governments to allocate more land and funding. Alongside the Australian Co-operative Housing Alliance (ACHA), we’re advocating for stronger support to expand co-op housing and make it a mainstream housing option.
