I had a great time connecting with so many clever, lovely people at the Comms Room Social Media for Gov Summit this week. 👋 It was a collective sigh of relief to hear we are all facing a lot of the same challenges, and inspiring to see the innovative ways so many teams are overcoming them. 💪 I shared the thinking behind our social media strategy, and broke my presentation out into three key rules: ⭐️ Know thy channels and thy audience ⭐️ Do your research ⭐️ Balance the message. Effective communication is a science and an art. It’s a delicate balance of understanding your audience and their behaviours, and meeting them where they are with the message and objective of your brand. Not to mention incorporating the complexities of algorithms and risk-management. To better explain, see Venn diagram below. 👇 Also see below beautiful pic of Melb Botanic Gardens. 💐☀️ #SM4GOV

Digital Content and Social Media Strategy Leader at the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet
I had a blast speaking at the 19th Social Media for Gov Summit yesterday. We covered three key areas to zoom out on to transform into areas of growth: Strategy, Technology, and You. So much incredible knowledge and experiences were shared over two days -- lots to think about and implement. It was also amazing to connect and meet with old and new friends in the world of social media and comms. It was great to see you again Serena Lever, Andy Mullens and Haydyn Jones in person (you're real! 😂). Thanks again Comms Room and Akolade for the honour! #SM4GOV

A haunted house, but it’s every post that went stale waiting in the approval process! It was an honor to join government communicators from across Australia at the 19th Annual Social Media for Gov, where I shared a case study on streamlining content approval to optimize turnaround time. We discussed practical strategies for building trust with your team and leadership, visualizing success, formalizing review processes, and pitching ideas effectively. Thank you, Melbourne, for being an engaging and welcoming audience—and for laughing along with my references to Pesto and Brat! Special thanks to Akolade and Comms Room for the opportunity to bring an international perspective from our local government agency in the Pacific Northwest at King County Department of Natural Resources and Parks. #SM4GOV
