The answer is clear... 🎓 Universities & the Tertiary Sector 🎓 With initiatives like the new National Student Ombudsman and 'National Code' mandating preventative education for both students and staff, big changes are on the horizon. Here’s what’s coming for tertiary institutions: 1️⃣ Greater transparency & accountability in reporting pathways and outcomes 2️⃣ Evidence-based education & training (psst… that’s where we come in! 😉) 3️⃣ Safer student accommodation – including colleges, residence halls, and any university-owned housing Change is happening. 🌟 Consent Labs is back for 2025! We kicked off the new year in Victoria by speaking with the young people of The Australian Ballet School. 🌟 Here’s a quick snapshot of their feedback: ✅ 97% of their young people said they had learnt something practical that they could incorporate into their lives ✅ 92% said they want to see us back to deliver another workshop Their key takeaways included: 💬 "How boundaries are important and how to express your boundaries easily, simply and respectfully!" 💬 "Saying no when you want to and learning that no is a full sentence and that's all you need." 💬 "Consent has to be verbal and what to do if you experience or witness sexual harassment." 💬 "What consent actually is & how I can incorporate it in everyday life." It’s been an inspiring start to the year, and we want to thank the Australian Ballet School for having us. Last week our CEO, Angelique Wan, and VIC Partnerships Manager, Chantel Meehan, had the privilege of meeting with the Parliamentary Secretary for Education, The Hon. Nina Taylor MP, and Claire Tobin, A/Executive Director of Wellbeing, Health, and Engagement, Victorian Department of Education, to discuss Consent and Respectful Relationships Education (CRRE) in Victoria. Key discussion points included: ✅ The importance of a whole-of-community approach, with a focus on effectively involving parents and carers in these essential conversations. ✅ On the ground insights from Victorian teachers on the barriers they face when implementing CRRE. ✅ The high demand Consent Labs has experienced for more support in delivering this education, particularly in regional and rural Victoria. ✅ The need for a multi-faceted approach, and how organisations like Consent Labs can collaborate with the Department of Education and the Respectful Relationships Initiative to strengthen CRRE within schools. 

In 2024, Consent Labs celebrated the publication of our FIRST academic publication! 📚 ✨ This collaborative effort, spearheaded by our Executive Directors, Angelique Wan, Joyce Yu, and Julia Cooper, alongside our esteemed Expert Advisory Group Member, Associate Professor Dr. Melissa Kang, marks a significant milestone for our organisation. Our paper evaluates the impact of Consent Labs' programs and highlights the advantages of a youth-led and curriculum-based approach to consent education. This research reinforces the importance of empowering young people to take charge of their learning and their future. In a recent article for Nine Honey, Angelique Wan, CEO of Consent Labs, highlights the importance of starting conversations surrounding consent earlier in a young person's life. 💡 Angelique explains, "For children starting to watch movies and TV shows, it can be starting conversations about the difference between what may be entertaining or funny to watch on screen – like a prince kissing a stranger unexpectedly – versus what should be expected or called out in real life as inappropriate or harmful behaviour."
