Today marks the end of the inaugural National Biosecurity Week, highlighting the role that biosecurity plays in the protection of our environment, food supply and economy. Australia’s agricultural sector relies on a robust biosecurity system and the many people across the nation who support it. CQUniversity’s Bachelor of Agriculture program has a strong focus on plant and animal biosecurity, which will be strengthened in 2025 with the addition of new units with a focus on biosecurity, including: Animal Health Preparedness: Disease Management and Biosecurity; Agronomy; and Rangeland and Pasture Management. The inclusion of these and other units is part of an updated Bachelor of Agriculture, which includes the addition of three new majors: Livestock, Agronomy and Agritech. Together with existing units of study on plant protection, sustainable agricultural development, livestock production, plant science, agtech, crop production, animal welfare and behaviour, agricultural extension and others, these new units will equip our graduates with the tools needed to contribute to innovation in Australia’s biosecurity system and to meet the opportunities and challenges in agriculture in Australia and abroad. Feedback will assist tech-developers and researchers in tailoring products to better service the industry. The aim is to facilitate the uptake of technologies that enhance drought resilience by assisting producers with the data driven tools and processes to manage for climate variability in beef cattle production. Deep diving into the opportunities for growing sesame and industrial hemp in northern Australia at a combined field day at Katherine Research Station today! Thanks to our research partners AgriFutures Australia, Cooperative Research Centre for Developing Northern Australia (CRCNA) and Northern Territory Government for hosting a fantastic event. More than 30 people came along to see the latest sesame and industrial hemp varieties, which are showing great promise as high-value rotation options for northern farming systems. Tomorrow, we're crossing the border into WA for another field day in Kununurra! #sesame #industrialhemp #northernaustralia #northernfarmingsystems #rotationoptions #highvaluecrops
