  • #NeurodiversityCelebrationWeek 🎉💟 "ADHD is often seen as a challenge but I see it as my superpower. My mind works outside the box, allowing me to approach problems in ways others might not consider. The ability to think creatively, adapt quickly, and find innovative solutions means that I even surprise myself. Neurodivergence isn't a limitation - it's a different way of thinking that brings unique strengths to the table." #NeurodiversityWeek #NCW #ThisIsND #NeuroInclusion Arabella S. • Today marks the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. Racism is one of the most harmful and pressing issues we face locally and globally. It exists in everyday interactions, institutions, and systems. The fight against racial discrimination requires everyone to act, every day. Stepping up as allies and active bystanders is essential. There’s a role for everyone to play in working towards a future where discrimination in all its forms is eliminated. • In the next Federal Election, Gen Z and Millennials will make up nearly 50% of voters and that means young people have the power to shape the future — but only if they're enrolled to vote! The AEC estimates that 11% of young people aged 18-24 aren’t enrolled. If that’s you (or someone you know), now’s the time to take action! ☑️ Check your enrolment or sign up today at aec.gov.au Fighting for what you believe in is always worthwhile. This includes seemingly "small actions" as individuals that add up when we are all doing them together 🗳️💜 #EnrolToVote #HaveYourSay #YouthVoice ID: A purple image with the CREATE logo and text that says: Enrol to Vote Day. • "Tough on crime" comes at a great cost to vulnerable children and young people. 💔 Last year, one of our Young Consultant's, Elysay shared that she wants governments to look at the crossover of children in care and the justice system and instead, provide them with support. “With the number of kids in care in the [youth justice] system, there is more of a need to focus on supporting those kids.  They all have these pre-established traumas and they’re constantly moving, have no emotional support so they start to express their emotional needs by lashing out with anger or assault. I think the focus should be on healing the child’s trauma. That is why they are acting the way they are acting.” 〰️ Elysay We urge all governments to listen to evidence and experts, including lived experience experts, who are calling for early intervention, diversion programs and rehabilitation to keep kids in school and with their communities, where they belong. #YouthJustice #YouthCrime #JailingIsFailing

Under the Victorian Government’s bail overhaul, children in the justice system would be treated like adults. But children are not adults. Victoria’s own Youth Justice Act recognises that young people have a unique capacity for rehabilitation and positive development, when properly supported. Systemic and structural issues drive youth offending. Health and community-based initiatives that address these root causes are the best response to help young people who’ve committed crimes to change their behaviour, and to keep the whole community safer. These interventions are also more cost-effective than a ‘tough on crime’ approach, which will only suck young people further into the quicksand of the criminal justice system. • Last week, our NSW team welcomed a delegation all the way from Japan 🌸 seeking learnings about out-of-home care systems in Australia. CREATE delivered training for the delegates on: 🔸 Highlighting the voices of children and young people, where they heard directly from a young person with experience of NSW's care system. 🔸 The qualities that make an effective caseworker as defined by children and young people with lived experience. 🔸 Promoting strengths-based communication, participatory practices, and person-centered approaches. 🔸 Contextualising and translating learnings and insights from CREATE’s training into the Japanese system and context. Thank you for the shared learnings. We hope to see you again soon ✈️🌍 #OutOfHomeCare #InternationalCollaboration #StrengthsBasedPractice #ChildrensVoices ID: A group photo of CREATE staff and delegates from Japan.
