Cumberland City Council was successful at the Keep Australia Beautiful NSW awards ceremony earlier this month. The Place and Engagement team received top honours in the category Liveable Cities for the 'Guildford Laneway Revitalisation' Project. The Environment and Resource Recovery team also received a highly commended award in the category Litter Prevention for the 'Approach to Litter Prevention in Cumberland' project. Well done!

We are pleased to announce the newly elected Mayor of Cumberland City Council, Councillor Ola Hamed alongside Councillor Michael Zaiter as Deputy Mayor, following last night’s Extraordinary Meeting of Council. Mayor Ola Hamed, who has served as a Cumberland Councillor for seven years, will lead the Council as Mayor for the next two years. Commenting on her appointment, Mayor Hamed said “I'm truly honoured to be sworn in as the Mayor of Cumberland City Council and as the first ever Muslim woman of Lebanese heritage. Alongside of course Deputy Mayor Zaiter who also happens to be of Lebanese heritage.” “Our Labor and our Liberal partnership reflects our commitment to a prosperous future for the residents of Cumberland. We had an amazing time with 17 of our wonderful seniors at our Seniors and Disability NAIDOC Week event: Tribal Warrior Cruise, as part of National NAIDOC Week until Sunday 14 July. The day was filled with excitement as we made a fascinating stop at Goat Island for a tour and witnessed some incredible traditional dancers. The weather was stunning on the harbour, making the day even more special! NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories, with this year’s theme being ‘Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud’.
