We’re introducing a new category ‘Urgent Care’ for our health care services, to help navigate the health options available in Victoria. Our aim is to help reduce pressure on our emergency departments and ambulance services by providing alternative care services for people who need urgent health care now, but their condition is not life-threatening. The three main urgent care options available are: 🟠 Urgent Care Clinics (walk in, open late and on weekends) 🟠 Virtual Emergency Care (video call, 24/7) 🟠 Nurse-on-Call (on 1300 60 60 24) 24/7 These services will make it easier for Victorians to understand where they can seek free help faster when they need urgent medical care now, but their condition is not life threatening. Breaking barriers in fertility care: Meet baby Johnny, one of 43 success stories from Australia's groundbreaking public IVF program. When Suong, a student nurse with stage 4 endometriosis, and her husband Daniel dreamed of starting a family, the path seemed uncertain. Today, thanks to Victoria's Public Fertility Care program – Australia's first publicly funded IVF service – they're proud parents to baby Johnny. "For me with my condition, I honestly didn't think it was going to happen straight away - a miracle to be honest," shares Suong. Led by The Royal Women's Hospital, this initiative is transforming lives and making fertility treatment accessible to all Victorians. ➡️ Learn more about our Public Fertility Care program: https://lnkd.in/gVc_TT-m #PublicFertilityCare #Fertility
Meet baby Johnny. He’s cute, almost five months old – and one of 43 babies born so far from Australia’s first publicly funded IVF program. Last week, Channel 9 News visited us at the Women’s to meet Johnny and learn more about Victoria’s Public Fertility Care. Johnny’s parents Suong and Daniel shared that starting a family was not as easy as they had hoped. Suong is a student nurse who lives with stage 4 endometriosis, the most severe form of the condition. When she and Daniel started trying for a baby, they were given little hope to conceive naturally. That is because endometriosis can damage the ovaries’ function. The program is part of the Statewide Action Plan to reduce drug-related harms, save lives and give more people the care they need. These grants are designed to expand or establish pharmacotherapy services and strengthen local treatment efforts. Community Health Services are ideal candidates for these grants due to their strong local connections, opportunities for statewide reach and commitment to supporting marginalised communities. Applications close on 7 November 2024. For more information and to apply, visit: https://lnkd.in/gQcN3qp5

Meet Thea, a passionate clinical counsellor. In her work, she witnesses the deep injustice of women being dismissed and their pain overlooked. Too often, she hears the echoes of the “hysterical woman” stereotype from her clients, a theme that highlights the urgent need for change. That’s why we’re committed to deepening our understanding of women’s pain and prioritising their health and wellbeing. Join us as we share Thea’s powerful story, shedding light on these important issues and inspiring a movement towards compassion and awareness. Content warning: This post discusses eating disorders. The Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System Interim Report highlighted the increasing prevalence and severity of eating disorders in the Victorian community. The report deepened our understanding of these serious and complex mental illnesses, which can be life-threatening and profoundly impact a person’s quality of life. Yesterday, we launched the Victorian eating disorders strategy 2024–2031. The strategy aims to improve the prevention, early identification, care, and treatment of eating disorders. Our vision for 2031 is clear: we want every person in Victoria to feel supported in cultivating a safe and empowered relationship with their body, food, and movement. Together, we will work to eliminate stigma and weight discrimination, ensuring that all individuals can pursue meaningful lives rooted in their own physical and mental wellbeing.
