DJAS is known for high-quality design and client collaboration, leading the way in innovative design practice.
About us
DJAS Architecture is a leading Canberra architecture and design practice and is part of a national design group with offices in Canberra, Melbourne, Sydney, New England, and Brisbane. DJAS was established by Daryl Jackson and Alastair Swayn in the 1980’s, and we have been integral to the development of Canberra’s urban footprint with projects such as the design of Brindabella Business Park and Majura precinct. During that time we have gained a reputation for high quality design based architecture due to our ability to synthesise the conflicting demands of creativity, planning, collaboration, cost effectiveness, and quality design. As an interdisciplinary design practice of professional architects, urban, and interior designers, we work collaboratively with our clients. Our extensive and diverse portfolio demonstrates our experience and skill set within an impressive range of design services.

This was a great project to be part of. Thanks SHAPE Australia for the reminder!
#Throwback to SHAPE Canberra's transformation of an existing space through a comprehensive fitout and refurbishment for its government client. The team focused on a cost-effective design by reusing features where possible, upgrading meeting rooms, and installing new operable walls for a flexible, multi-use environment. A highlight of the project was the installation of a significant AV package, including nearly 80 TVs and a curved media wall system. With human-centric lighting, acoustic treatments, and carefully selected furniture, we achieved an architecturally modern space. The high-security nature of the facility ensured security and acoustic treatments remained a key focus of the build. It is with profound sadness that DJAS Architecture notes the passing of Terry Snow AM, a visionary entrepreneur, business leader, and philanthropist whose impact on Canberra and beyond will endure for generations. Our founder Alastair Swayn AO working together with Terry forged a formidable partnership that spanned decades, marked by their shared dedication to excellence in design and development. From the early days collaborating on projects like the Capital Jet hangar to the transformative master plan for Canberra Airport and the design and delivery of Australia's first 5 Green Star Rated building at Brindabella Business Park, their work together exemplified a commitment to innovation and quality. Terry Snow's vision and leadership have left an indelible mark on the architectural landscape of Australia. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time. Thank you to The Fifth Estate for sharing an article highlighting a transformative build-to-rent project in Turner. This exciting initiative, a collaboration with Canberra PCYC, CHC Affordable Housing and The Snow Foundation, is set to provide 45 affordable housing units. This includes 35 units for essential workers and 10 social housing units for at-risk youth, together with a social enterprise cafe. Central to this project is the innovative use of cross-laminated timber (CLT), ensuring sustainability, efficiency, and comfort for residents. Our Technical Director James Hetherington has dedicated his expertise to the design, which addresses the housing crisis and sets a new standard for sustainable construction in multi-unit residential developments in Canberra. We're grateful for the support of our partners and the ACT Government for working to make this project a reality.
