Supporting those experiencing FDV in regional WA: Phone and web chat counselling, information hub and workplace training

About us

DVassist is a unique and innovative organisation that offers phone and web chat counselling to address the complex issue of abusive relationships for people living in regional, rural and remote areas of Western Australia. DVassist commenced in 2017 as a pilot project with an initial focus on 16 regional areas of Western Australia covering the East and West Kimberly, Pilbara, Wheatbelt, Goldfields-Esperance, Great Southern, Geraldton and some parts of the South West. With generous support from various donors, over time we expanded to 58 shires within the regional, rural and remote WA. Our mission is to support any person impacted by an abusive relationship in rural, regional and remote Western Australia to make informed choices that enhance their life and personal safety. We intend to achieve our mission through: - Making it easy for people experiencing domestic violence to find local domestic and family violence support services in their town via a comprehensive online service directory at www.dvassist.org.au - Providing people experiencing domestic violence with regionally focused and relevant information about domestic violence, and tools on our website to assist them to empower themselves to make informed choices that enhance their life and personal safety. - Establishing a rural and remote focused telephone and online web-chat counselling service providing triage, single and multi-session counselling, referral, and on-going case management and support for people experiencing domestic violence. We hope to be a resource and partner for regional areas in WA moving forward and look forward to collaborating with you to spread the word about the valuable and vital work being done in the community to support those impacted by family and domestic violence. DVassist is a Registered Charity (Public Benevolent Institution entity subtype) with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission. It is endorsed by the ATO as a Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR).

What a privilege to speak at the Senior’s Action Group yesterday at the QE2 Centre in Geraldton! Our educator, Daphne, spoke to about 25 people about elder abuse, a very hidden and under-reported issue. Thanks to Pauline for inviting us and everyone who asked questions and shared their stories. If you need support for elder abuse, please call the Elder Abuse Helpline on 1300 724 679. #elderabuse #eldercare #ElderAbuseAwareness

  • This year’s International Women’s Day theme is March Forward: For ALL Women and Girls, which commemorates 30 years since 189 nations adopted the United Nations' Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action to achieve gender equality. Today is also a reminder that there is still work to be done to achieve gender equality. As a specialist FDV service, DVassist acknowledges the importance of achieving gender equality, which is core to the work we do. A conscious effort and collaboration are key to creating a future where equality is not just an aspiration but a reality. We wish you all a Happy International Women's Day #iwd #marchforward #internationalwomensday2025 #genderequality #LetsTalkGenderRoles

  • It was great to see so many participants at DVassist’s specialist family and domestic violence (FDV) training held this week in Kalgoorlie. FDV is complex, and it's essential that everyone who works alongside people experiencing FDV has the knowledge and skills to recognise and respond appropriately. Wednesday’s sessions focused on trauma and trauma-informed care and practice, and it was great to see the conversation on this important topic and how to put it into practice. We had wonderful conversations and shared experiences, and there was great networking among participants. We will be back in May and can’t wait to deliver more training! #ProfessionalDevelopment

DVassist attended the Community Service Expo in Mullewa yesterday! We were excited to meet and chat with the lovely locals and learn about the agencies who visit and what they offer in support and services. People were particularly interested in knowing more about DVassist's online FDV counselling and our professional in-person FDV training that we provide in regional, rural, and remote communities. We really enjoyed the friendly and warmness of everyone who attended today. Thank you to the Mullewa CRC for holding this event! #DomesticViolenceAwareness #domesticviolencecounselling #SupportLocalCommunities #Mullewa Community Resource Centre
