Researcher Spotlight 💡 ADM+S PhD student Miguel Loor Paredes from the Emerging Technologies Research Lab, Monash University is studying automated work futures at the intersection of music and technology. His thesis aims to understand the motivations and experiences of workers at the intersection of #technology and #creativity who explore the potential of human and machine collaboration in musical applications and settings for future scenarios. 🔗 Recently published: Emerging paradigms in music technology: valuing mistakes, glitches and uncertainty in the age of generative AI and automation - https://lnkd.in/gK38cASP 📍 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gakuR8qr

Jeni Lee and Dr Thao Phan's documentary 'AI in the Street: Drone Observatory' has been officially selected by the Doc.London Documentary Film Festival 2025 and will be streamed between 18 March and 4 April 2025. AI in the Street: Drone Observatory is situated in the Australian QLD town of Logan. Logan is the “drone delivery capital of the world“ - a trial site for autonomous delivery systems. In this research project we collaborated with local people to explore the space above our heads as a street in order to provide insight into the sensory and experiential aspects of living with drones. #ethnofilm #documentary #officialselection

And here it is 🙌 The first publication of my ongoing PhD research: Emerging paradigms in music technology: valuing mistakes, glitches and uncertainty in the age of generative AI and automation. In this article, I present ethnographic findings on how music technologists in Melbourne creatively respond to the uncertainties introduced by AI and automation. One key aspect is how mistakes, technical glitches and accidents are valued within the creative process. As my participants argue, this could hardly be captured by the current state of LLMs. Special thanks to my supervisory team –Sarah Pink, Debora Lanzeni and Aneta Podkalicka– for their time and feedback on my initial drafts. This article is part of an upcoming special issue on "The Impact of Generative AI on Human Creativity" in AI & Society. https://lnkd.in/gSyjaYHM Emerging Technologies Research Lab, Monash University Monash Information Technology, ARC Centre of Excellence for Automated Decision-Making and Society

We would like to congratulate Sara Daly on her successful Doctorate completion! Sara's research used design anthropological and sensory ethnographic methodology to unpack dominant assumptions about the comfort and convenience of the air-conditioned workplace. The project, through foregrounding the ongoing negotiations occupants of air-conditioned buildings undertake when dressing for work in an artificially climate-controlled building, investigates how the existing social and cultural complexities of a workplace are potentially reinforced with the presence of air conditioning. Well done Dr Sara! #phd #research #airconditioning #climate

This Saturday night at 5:20pm our film "SuperBots' will air on SBS! This upbeat and inspiring short film observes and engages with students from Brentwood Secondary College during their two-day interactive Industry Immersion program ‘Superbots’, where girls ideate, test and construct their own voicebot personality. The program, co-designed by Monash Tech School and Monash University's Faculty of IT and supported by industry mentors, allows students to ideate, test and construct their own voicebot personality.
