🤔Have you ever wondered about your connection to Country as a non-Indigenous person? 🌊To begin to understand the importance of Country to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, we have to grasp that the term means so much more than land, earth, sea, or sky – Country isn’t close to the nouns we use in English. 👣Rather, a connection to Country is better explained as a sense of belonging and identity. 🌱When we begin to form a better understanding of Country and the complexity of this term, we gain knowledge about why disrespecting the land can be deeply hurtful. #connectiontocountry #practicalreconciliation #culturalawareness

Remembering the Pinjarra Massacre – 1834 🖤 Today, we pause to acknowledge and reflect on the Pinjarra Massacre, which occurred in 1834 in Western Australia. This tragic event saw the loss of many Noongar lives as colonial forces attacked the Bindjareb people, leaving a painful mark on the community that still resonates today. The Pinjarra Massacre is a reminder of the devastating impacts of colonisation and the need to truthfully recognise our shared history. By acknowledging these past injustices, we can work towards healing and ensure that the voices and stories of the Bindjareb people are heard and respected. Let’s continue the journey towards truth-telling and Reconciliation, honouring the resilience of the Noongar community and all First Nations peoples. #PinjarraMassacre #TruthTelling #Noongar #Bindjareb #Reconciliation #SharedHistory #FirstNationsAustralia #NeverForget

On this day in 1985, Uluru was returned to its Traditional Owners, the Anangu people, marking a significant moment in Australia’s journey towards recognising Aboriginal land rights. The handback represented more than the return of land; it honoured the deep cultural, spiritual, and historical connection that the Anangu have with this sacred place. In 2019, another important step was taken when climbing Uluru was officially stopped, respecting the wishes of the Anangu, who have long asked visitors not to climb due to the cultural and spiritual significance of the site. This decision was a powerful reminder of the importance of listening to and respecting First Nations voices. #Uluru #HandbackAnniversary #RespectCountry #Anangu #Reconciliation #CulturalHeritage #FirstNationsAustralia #ListenToFirstNationsVoices

Big esso to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) for featuring one of Aunty Munya Andrews videos recently. We believe it's important for more stories about culture to be shared in the media, as having the knowledge and education around culture is a great first step towards Reconciliation. https://lnkd.in/eeU6qjda

❓Why should non-Indigenous people learn how to say ‘hello’ in their local traditional language? Just like learning bonjour or ciao before travelling, allies can take a meaningful step towards reconciliation by learning greetings in the languages of the land they live on. It’s a simple yet powerful way to show respect, foster inclusion, and honour Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. Small actions like this help build stronger connections and contribute to the journey of Reconciliation. 👇🏼If you know your local greeting, I’d love to hear it! Please share it in the comments below. #Allyship #LanguageMatters #Reconciliation #IndigenousLanguages #EvolveWithRespect
