Revolutionary cloud-based technology to detect glaucoma.

About us

Eyeonic is an Australian health tech company that revolutionises the way important eye diseases like glaucoma are detected. With Eyeonic’s technology, people can take an online cloud-based test for glaucoma on any computer; at the clinic, or from the comfort and convenience of their own home. Diagnostic accuracy is as good and in many cases better than the traditional in-clinic diagnostic tool, the machine-based visual field test. Eyeonic’s Online Visual Field Test, developed by glaucoma specialist, Associate Professor Simon Skalicky has been extensively scientifically evaluated, producing results in line with the traditional methods of testing. As a practicing ophthalmologist, Professor Skalicky saw firsthand, time and time again, the barriers caused by traditional visual field tests. Constant complaints from patients about how uncomfortable and unpleasant the test was combined with his own PhD research into online visual testing sparked the development of Eyeonic. Patients greatly prefer the experience of Eyeonic’s online visual field test vs conventional machine-based visual field testing . The online test is more accessible, more pleasant for the patient, more cost-effective, and provides patients with control of their own data to improve continuity of glaucoma care regardless of the doctor. Eyeonic is supported by outstanding global partners. Working with experts from Microsoft and supported by the MicrosoftForStartups program, Eyeonic leverages off all the possibilities of cloud computing together with a robust cyber security platform. Eyeonic’s robust research output has inspired Glaucoma researchers from around the world, with clinical trials underway in Uganda, Vietnam, New Zealand and centres in Sydney and Melbourne

Did you know that 80 million people in the world are living with glaucoma? What’s worse is that 90% of glaucoma cases are going undiagnosed in underdeveloped countries, leading to permanent vision loss or complete blindness. As it stands, the options customers have for glaucoma testing are not fully accessible and pose a range of issues for those who need more flexible options. Our e-book ‘What You Didn’t Know About a Visual Field Test’ breaks down our new test we developed in 2019 to help streamline glaucoma testing. The Eyeonic solution is an online, easy and affordable test that doesn’t compromise accuracy. Harnessing the power of artificial intelligence and cloud-based infrastructure, the Eyeonic test works on any Microsoft supported hardware. With an estimated total of 111 million glaucoma sufferers by 2040, we knew an overhaul of the current system was needed for patients to have easier access to reliable glaucoma testing, so that’s what we did. Check out our website for more info. #Glaucoma #EyeCare #GlaucomaPrevention #Eyeonic

Eyeonic was founded in 2019 by Associate Professor Simon Skalicky. Professor Skalicky specialises in glaucoma ophthalmology, clinical research, and tech development. He recognised an acute need for improvements in visual field testing - bulky machines that were unpleasant to use, undependable, and caused a hold-up in glaucoma clinics world-wide. He saw a need for an affordable, user-friendly alternative that would bring glaucoma testing to any computer or tablet, digitally integrating with medical e-records and telemedicine systems. Professor Skalicky’s patients saw the potential in his work and encouraged him to continue developing the app. One patient, who was a senior programmer and AI engineer at Microsoft, saw potential in the technology and wanted to help. He linked Professor Skalicky with the Microsoft for Startups program, leveraging the global Microsoft network to ensure optimal global deployment and cyber security. He helped build the Artificial Intelligence models required for the patient monitoring. With the support of his patients, Professor Skalicky went on to develop an application that has revolutionised glaucoma testing. Our e-book ‘What You Didn’t Know: About a Visual Field Test’ takes you through what exactly makes this new testing system so innovative.’ #EyeCare #Glaucoma #Telemedicine #Eyeonic #PatientCare #Ophthalmology #Optometry #eyecarerevolution

It was so great to host 42 Optometrists who attended Eyeonic's CPD workshop dinner in Pretoria, South Africa last week. Thank you to Dr Marissa Willemse and Dr Yvette van de Merwe for their wonderful presentations and to Nico Myburgh from Manian Health for co-ordinating the evening. It was a great night which everyone enjoyed and learnt a lot about Visual field testing and the latest developments, including Eyeonic's online visual field test software. Leveraging the power of AI to revolutionise access to sight-saving services globally. #VisualField #DigitalHealth #SouthAfrica #GlaucomaAwareness
