We are thrilled to welcome Elizabeth Savage to RDC as our new Credit Advisor for APAC. With over 15 years of experience in credit risk management across the UK and Australia, Liz specialises in credit model development, implementation, monitoring, and optimisation. Her career spans UK banks, US-based global financial services companies, and a UK startup where she developed decisioning strategies through rapid test-and-learn approaches for customer acquisition and management. More recently, as a management consultant, she has assisted clients across Australia and New Zealand in optimising their credit strategies and developing credit models. Liz moved from London to Melbourne 14 years ago. She has two teenage children and a dog. Our recent paper "Towards Responsible Decisions with Limited Training Data Using Human-in-the-Loop" has been accepted for presentation at the PKAW 2024 Workshop at The Pacific Rim International Conference on Artificial Intelligence (PRICAI) in November. The research tackles the challenges of bias in machine learning models caused by underrepresented data patterns. By combining human expertise with machine learning, we aim to create more responsible, transparent and auditable AI systems. During our recent Town Hall, Kevin Tham, PhD shared some eye-opening statistics that underscore the importance of staying vigilant online. In 1H24 a staggering $159,826,214.77 was reported in losses across 164,117 reported scams. These figures are not just statistics—they represent real people impacted by increasingly sophisticated scammers. The top scams by financial loss include: 💰 Investment Scams: $94,120,506 👩❤️👨 Romance Scams: $13,399,355 📨 Phishing Scams: $10,268,156 With nearly half (47.6%) of scams targeting individuals over the age of 55, it’s clear that scammers are becoming increasingly sophisticated in their tactics. At RDC, our strength lies in our people and our commitment to each other’s safety. That’s why we actively share knowledge about scams and support one another in staying informed. By working together, we can safeguard ourselves and those around us from significant financial losses. Here’s how you can stay vigilant: 🛑Stop – Before acting on any request for money or personal information, pause and evaluate. Scammers thrive on urgency. ✅Check – Always verify the legitimacy of the request by contacting the organization directly through official channels. 💻Report – If you encounter a scam, report it to Scamwatch.gov.au immediately. Your report could prevent others from falling victim. The financial impact of these scams is profound, but by sharing our experiences and spreading awareness, we can help protect ourselves and our community.
