Updates

  • Poorneet means tadpole 🌞 That means it's tadpole time in the Eastern Kulin calendar. During Poorneet season the swift poorneets (tadpoles) emerge, in bulk. You'll also notice it's warming up, but the rain will still be around. The days are getting longer and you'll be able to hear the Currawongs call loudly and often. Myrnong, (Yam Daisy) are will be able to be eaten shortly.

  • It's nearly time to sit down with Government. The elected Members of the First Peoples’ Assembly met this week in Swan Hill in the lead up to the Treaty negotiations that are due to officially begin by the end of the year. The Assembly has spent years gathering so many deadly ideas from communities in every corner of the state - now it's time to decide what priorities to take into the first round of talks with the Victorian Government! We want Treaty to ensure our communities can use local knowledge to come up with and deliver practical solutions at a local level. And we're going to need your help to get it done! If you want to learn more about our meeting on Wamba Wemba Country, visit: https://lnkd.in/gGWPeK5W

  • Up on beautiful Wamba Wemba Country for an Assembly Meeting 🖤💛❤️ It’s our first full Assembly meeting held on Wamba Wemba Country and follows the creation of a Wamba Wemba seat on the Assembly earlier this year. Treaty negotiations commence later this year, and the elected Members are meeting in Swan Hill to discuss all the deadly ideas they've been hearing from their communities across the state.

  • Realising our Collective Power 🖤💛❤️ We've been hosting many events and yarns all over the State in the lead up to Statewide Treaty negotiations. Yesterday we had a yarn with Aboriginal Community Controlled Sectors (ACCOs) and the broader community sector. We held it to strengthen the collaboration between the Assembly and ACCOs, to ensure our Treaty is robust and inclusive. We will continue to engage with the ACCO sector and alike to ensure that the voices and expertise of community organisations are at the heart of Treaty negotiations.

  • Very demure, very mindful, very deadly! Jony Berry has taken down Mr Universe 2024 🔥🔥🔥 This Palawa man is a deadly LGBTIQA+ advocate and is the first Australian man to win Mr Universe. It was back in 2004 when Jennifer Hawkins was the first Australian woman to win Miss Universe and if that meteoric rise is anything to judge, Jony has a bright future ahead! Congrats, brus 🏆
