Fremantle Octopus (Octopus Djinda): Australia’s Unexpected Superfood As the world shifts toward sustainable and high-protein food alternatives, Fremantle Octopus continues to make waves as a local seafood superfood. Did you know octopus has more iron and less cholesterol than beef? Low in carbohydrates, packed with protein, B12, B6, and omega-3s, supporting heart health, brain function, and recovery. As WA sports dietitian Julie Meek says: ✅ High in protein & iron ✅ Low in fat ✅ Powerful anti-inflammatory properties Cristiano Ronaldo even includes octopus in his strict diet—a testament to its elite-level nutrition. 💪⚽ Beyond health benefits, Fremantle Octopus is incredibly versatile. Recognised and used by the world's best chefs, it is also perfect for the home chef on a platter, in pastas, on pizzas or on the grill at the backyard BBQ. With Australians embracing seafood as part of a healthier diet, Fremantle Octopus is the next great superfood? Have you tried it? Editor-in-Chief West Australian Good Food Guide, a regular guest on 6PR Perth and Channel Nine, Our State on a Plate
We are thrilled to have WA-based Fremantle Octopus Group on board as the Presenting Partner of the WAGFG 2025 Restaurant of the Year Award, to be presented at our awards night on Monday, February 24th at THE RECHABITE in Northbridge. Thank you "Freo Occy" for your amazing support of this award. A little know 'fun fact' (we love these!) - sustainably caught Fremantle Octopus dines on an abundance of premium seafood including Western Rock Lobster, abalone, and scallops; it's no wonder the flavour profile has won over chefs around the world. Who will take out the top award on Monday night? I've included a little throwback to last year's winner, Madalenas in South Fremantle. "Is one of Australia’s most essential and downright excellent seafood restaurants hiding in plain sight? Madalena’s doesn’t present as anything fancy, but that’s its magic because the tone here is so democratic, so thoroughly free of fuss, that it’s almost impossible not to enjoy yourself. The fit-out makes the most of the aspect, the sunlight creeping in as the day flows on, the breeze rolling off the ocean. And while the tables may be collapsible, the chairs simple bentwood, the simplicity allows the focus to stay on the most important part of a restaurant experience: enjoyment". Stay tuned for the Guide launch next Tuesday, February 25th at noon, with our FREE magazine in the West Australian Newspaper on Saturday, March 1st - 80 bumper pages that guide you on where to eat and drink in WA in 2025. We can't wait to share! Glenn Wheeler Fremantle Octopus Group Tessa Gallagher Natalie Bird Abbie Kinsella Max Brearley Anna Franklyn

A Well-Deserved Nomination for Fremantle Octopus Fremantle Octopus was recently nominated for the ‘MSC (Marine Stewardship Council) Best Sustainable Seafood Brand 2025’. It’s a titanic size contest; a grassroots West Australian seafood brand versus 5 multi-national giants. Going to a public vote to determine the winner, this is a vote that matters for us, the ocean, and the future of fishing. In 2024, Fremantle Octopus MD, Glenn Wheeler, won the MSC Sustainable Fishing Hero award. This award acknowledged our dedication to environmentally sensitive fishing and world leading sustainability practices. Winning this new award would be the ultimate reflection of that commitment, to both our customers and the pristine blue waters off the WA coast that we fish. It takes less than 10 seconds to vote via the below link, closing on 14 February 2025. https://lnkd.in/gVvgje7c Thank you for the support, your vote matters!
