If there's one thing about the maritime industry, its members understand the term 'all hands on deck!' This Saturday's Maritime Day at the Fremantle Passenger Terminal is shaping up as a beauty....the result of dozens of large and small organisations contributing their people, resources and expertise. We're grateful all those companies and others who've pitched in, most particularly our key sponsors Svitzer Australia, Royal Australian Navy, Jetwave Marine, Fremantle Pilots, Company of Master Mariners of Australia and TAMS. A free community event, Maritime Day runs from 10am to 4pm. Come on down, check out the scores of exhibitions and entertainment, then board the Navy's submarine intervention support ship MV Besant. Painted bright orange, you can't miss it! #maritime #fremantle #ports #ships #maritimeday

It was great to get-together with industry colleagues this morning as Fremantle Ports’ CEO Jodie Ransom shared her career experiences in an address to the Kwinana Industries Council Women’s Networking Forum. Joining BHP as a seafarer cadet after graduating Kwinana Senior High School, Ms Ransom was the only female in a cohort of 20. She loved the maritime industry, which led to roles at Alcoa, Svitzer Australia and CBH Group, developing her skills and industry rounding. While there were challenges, today she spoke of the value of mentoring, believing in yourself and the work Fremantle Ports is doing to encourage women into maritime. Attendees enjoyed informative and inspiring presentations from fellow speakers Tianqi Lithium Energy Australia's Research and Development Lead Hazel Lim and Alcoa’s first year Boilermaker Apprentice Sydney Mouna. Thank you to Kwinana Industries Council for hosting a great event. #fremantleports #maritime #womeninmaritime #kwinanaindustriescouncil

Fremantle Ports today proudly launched two new locally built pilot vessels that will facilitate efficient ship movements fundamental to the operations of the port. The $7.6 million Berkeley Class pilot vessels are West Australian-built in Geraldton by Dongara Marine and have a proven reputation as fast, reliable, comfortable and suitable for local conditions. The vessels, named Parker and Kwilena, are mastered by Fremantle Ports’ Small Craft team who deliver pilots to ships every day of the year, in a range of weather conditions. The boats also have a secondary role undertaking security patrols of port waters. Parker recognises former Fremantle Ports CEO the late Michael Parker who acknowledged the high-risk nature of marine pilot transfers and was committed to improving safety for all. Parker’s sister ship is named Kwilena, the Noongar word for dolphin reflecting the cultural significance of our waterways to the Whadjuk people. #Fremantleports #pilotboats #pilots #smallcraft

Congratulations to CBH Group for winning the Regional Exporter of the Year award at the 2024 Western Australian Export Awards. Well done to all our customers who were nominated across each of the categories.
We’re thrilled to have won the Regional Export Award at the Western Australian Export Awards for the second year in a row! The Regional Export Award celebrates businesses with a head office or majority of operations based in regional WA, demonstrating excellence in export success. This recognition highlights our ongoing success in delivering Western Australian grain to the world and reflects the dedication of WA growers and our team across the entire supply chain. We’re now headed to the Australian Export Awards in November to compete at the national level. Congratulations to all other award winners, and thanks to Invest and Trade Western Australia for hosting a wonderful night! #ExportAwards Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade)

Fremantle Ports welcomed our partners to our 2024 Outer Harbour Health Safety and Environment Forum last week. Line managers and supervisors with responsibility for operations and safety managers and advisors supporting that work, met at the Jackovich Centre in Henderson for Fremantle Ports' updates and initiatives, robust round table discussions and networking. With the intention to improve our understanding of each other’s operations and better position us to understand and collaborate in getting our work done safely, the forum was a great success. #fremantleports #collaboration #HSE #partners

It’s been a week since the Maersk Shekou collided with the STS Leeuwin II at Victoria Quay, damaging Western Australia’s much-loved sail training ship. The Leeuwin is a popular attraction for visitors to Victoria Quay and has a special place in the hearts of Western Australians, particularly for those who’ve had the opportunity to sail aboard and benefit from the Leeuwin’s leadership and youth development programs. The Australian Transport Safety Bureau investigation is well underway, with our active support. In addition, Fremantle Ports is undertaking its own investigation in parallel. Most importantly, we are continuing to provide support to those impacted by the incident. We welcome around 1,500 ships to the Port of Fremantle each year. Every vessel movement is managed by our skilled and experienced people with a focus on safety, working within our operational parameters and in partnership with highly skilled teams at Fremantle Pilots and Svitzer Australia tugs. We want to thank our own teams at Fremantle Ports for acting quickly last Friday and also ensuring the safety of the area after the incident and for visitors to Victoria Quay since. Your actions are testimony to our organisational values of collaboration, accountability, respect and excellence. Next steps include assisting the Leeuwin Ocean Adventure Foundation to begin the long process of de-rigging the ship. It’s taken considerable engineering and safety assessment work this week, but that should happen any day now. We look forward to working together to get the Leeuwin sailing again as soon as possible. #fremantleports #ports #maritime #safety
