🙌 A huge thank you to all who attended our ‘WA Finance, Tech, and Business: Delivering Future Skills' event in #Perth! The event brought together industry, learners, training providers and government to examine the challenges and opportunities in future skills development in WA. Thank you to Tracey Farrow, GIA(Affiliated), Financial, Administrative & Professional Services Training Council Inc, Dr Ross Kelly, Department of Training and Workforce Development, Michelle Hoad, Kristin Wareing and North Metropolitan TAFE for your support in making the event happen. Key themes from the discussions included: ➡ The challenges of VET keeping pace with emerging technologies, including upskilling for VET teachers and trainers, and senior managers understanding the impacts (and opportunities) of new technologies. ➡ The importance of generalist (employability) skills, which can be challenging for employers to assess as they are often not made explicit in training, in the way that specialist (technical) skills are. ➡ The value of workplace experience to develop generalist skills. How can industry be supported to provide/be involved in placement opportunities, traineeships and work experience which allows learners to develop the skills needed for their roles and the workplace environment. ➡ Employers are keen to recruit from alternative pathways but need support to translate training packages into skills that are understood in the workplace. It was great to connect with Harpreet Kaur, Tricia Andrews, MYOB, Pamela Taylor, Greenspace Collective, Greg Hilton, Luke LeBreton and colleagues. All insights will help to fuel our 2025 Workforce Plan and will be used to take forward our #FSOProjects, including the 'ICT Training Package Needs and Gaps Analysis', 'Earn While You Learn' and 'Qualification Design to Support Digital Capability' projects. We look forward to visiting QLD next month! 👉 Learn more about our projects here: https://lnkd.in/gbFuNTWM 👉 Get involved in our work by becoming a Collaborator: https://lnkd.in/gmPK3GcX #WA #FutureSkills #WesternAustralia #JobsandSkillsCouncil

Thanks to Business NSW Riverina Murray for inviting our Workforce Planning Lead Rachel Kerrigan to speak at their recent Future of Business Regional Summit. Rachel discussed challenges and opportunities within the finance, technology and business industries and the importance of digital skills for employability. Key insights from the summit included: 💡In rural and regional areas a focus on both recruitment and retention is crucial. Recruiters often act as marketing agents for their regions. 💡When considering workplace diversity, it’s key to focus on creating flexible, adaptable systems and structures co-designed with the right voices, rather than quotas. 💡With as many as five generations in today's workplaces, it’s important to recognise generational distinctions. For example, Gen X has learnt to adapt to emerging tech, having moved from dial telephone, to mobile, to internet, and now navigating AI. 💡It's essential for businesses to invest in a foundation of data. A lack of data limits use of AI, which in turn restricts ability to drive future growth. We love to connect with rural and regional small businesses! Our Digital Knowledge Exchange Lead Sylvia Celima and Earn While You Learn Lead Marco Millalonco enjoyed hearing insights into building AI literacy at the launch of the ‘Digital Sisters: AI for Good’ research report last week. It’s part of a collaboration between Good Things Australia, Microsoft, and Telstra, aiming to support migrant and refugee women to understand and use AI. The event included a panel discussion, featuring Dayle Stevens OAM, Jo Dooley, Priyanka Sharan from Boronia Multicultural Services Inc and Kim Dyball from the Young Indigenous Women's STEM Academy. Key takeaways included: ➡ There is a lack of awareness of AI, with many who say they are unfamiliar with AI not realising they already use it in daily life. ➡ Those from marginalised communities need to feel safe, confident and empowered to access AI. ➡ Many people are unable to access digital devices and wi-fi, leaving them excluded from AI.
