Indonesia’s Call to Action. At our World Eye Bank Symposium in September in Jakarta, we were thrilled to bring together all the Indonesian eye bankers and stakeholders for the very first time (pictured with the GAEBA Chair). Together, they pledged to work together to drive forward eye banking across Indonesia. We can’t wait to see the advancements they make in the years to come. Keep up the good work Indonesia. The Global Alliance of Eye Bank Associations is an internationally recognized association of eye bank associations.
About us
GAEBA works to improve donation and recipient services, through global partnership, cooperation and good will. The Global Alliance of Eye Bank Associations inc. is a collective, global organization established by the: Eye Bank Association of America, European Eye Bank Association, Association of Eye Banks of Asia, Eye Banks Association of Australia and New Zealand, Pan American Association of Eye Banks, and Eye Bank Association of India. The organization is a member of the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness and the International Council of Ophthalmolgy, and collaborates with sector professionals in regions without eye bank associations – who share common goals and values. In 2012 a Memorandum of Understanding was signed by representatives from the Associations, and the organization officially formed in 2014, with the intent to develop a peer body to support industry recommendations, best practice and the WHO’s Initiative for Medical Products of Human Origin, and the Declaration of Istanbul on Organ Trafficking and Transplant tourism.

Prof Namrata Sharma receives GAEBA’s inaugural Dr Paul Dubord Award for International Eye Banking The award was presented during the World Eye Bank Symposium #WEBS2024 in Jakarta, Indonesia, on 25 September 2024, where Prof Sharma was honoured for her outstanding contributions to the international eye banking community. 💬 "Thank you for the valuable recognition. This award is a tribute to the person who changed the platform of Eye banking globally. It serves as a powerful motivation for myself and my team to diligently pursue excellence in eye banking and corneal transplantation. It has special relevance in my country because he was instrumental in changing the face of Eye Banking in Indian Ophthalmology. The award also highlights the contributions of my alma mater, Dr. Rajendra Prasad Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences, as we work to elevate the standards of care in our field both nationally and internationally. Furthermore, it will foster valuable collaborations across the globe." - Prof Namrata Sharma ➡️ Interview: https://lnkd.in/epjquadu

Global Alliance of Eye Banks (GAEBA) welcomes Lions Eye Bank of West Central Ohio as new Sector Member "We wanted to join GAEBA because of the need for collaboration with our international eye banking communities about best practices, challenges, and new technologies. There is an ongoing need for corneas, especially internationally. There is also a big need to combine statistical measurements and create a standardization among the profession that would in turn benefit both our surgeons and their patients." - Shannon Schweitzer, Executive Director for Lions Eye Bank of West Central Ohio ➡ Blogpost #interview now online: https://lnkd.in/em_-68kU

GAEBA’s new Global Standards: Open Consultation Period ➡ Submit feedback to GAEBA by Friday 23rd August 2024, via the Project Lead, Erik Hellier on ehellier@coleb.org
GAEBA has developed a new Global Standard for Eye Banking, and invites interested parties to provide feedback. 👁 The Global Standards are intended to provide global minimum best practice recommendations to organisations involved in #eyebanking. They are designed to assist nations and regions that do not have their own local #Standard in place. GAEBA’s goal is for the Standards to be used as an open-source reference document and/or used to assist eye banks and nations to develop their own Standards. All info and the download of the Global Standard here: https://lnkd.in/e9zvZYKi
