If you've asked me how things were going at Gathera at anytime in the last two years, I probably said, "we're designing an ecosystem of products that are launching soon." Well, that moment has finally arrived! This dusty old shipping container, which just landed at our Sydney warehouse, is packed with the very products Peter Cole and I envisioned over two years ago. Our goal? To create an ecosystem of gardening products that activate any space—whether indoors or outdoors—for growing food or building your own indoor jungle. The journey has been absolutely wild. We've been through the manufacturing meat grinder, learned some tough lessons in product-market fit, and even gone through a cheeky rebrand! I’m keen to share what we've created. Stay tuned, there is much more to come! 🌿

Crafting the tools that reconnect the world with the web of life and inspire a planet friendly lifestyle.
About us
gathera aims to address the issue of food wastage and environmental degradation through selling indoor gardening products to everyday people. Much of the food we eat comes from industrial farms that rely heavily on fertilisers and pesticides that reduce the long term health of the soil they grow in. Furthermore the plants we commonly eat are those that are suited not to taste and freshness, but to being driven halfway across the country in a cold steel box to get to you. Hydroponics and indoor farming provides the opportunity for city dwellers to become self sustainable, allowing them to live healthier and more environmentally friendly lives.

Our latest bright idea... the Sun Bulb! https://lnkd.in/gKYtS_Q8 A powerful indoor grow light to turn dark corners into thriving gardens. Packed with cool features that make it a joy to use. You can hang vertically and angle sideways, which opens up a whole new range of gardening opportunities. It also has a lens, so you can focus the light broad or narrow. Narrow focus is so powerful you can grow veggies indoors. Head on over to our website and check it out for yourself!

The amount of scope creep on the design of the sprouthouse was out of control. The brief was to create a simple mason jar lid that would capture water from draining sprouts, allow the jar to stand vertically, and allow the sprouts to be rinsed and drained without taking off the lid. Then we decided to make it rectangular so that it had more surface area and could grow microgreens too. We got rid of the round, off the shelf mason jar, and introduced a stylish new form factor which would allow you to grow sprouts and microgreens in the same kit - something which no product could do even though the seeds are the same. In doing so we swapped out the disposable growing mediums of coconut fibre, hemp and rockwool which is traditionally required to grow microgreens with - and we replaced it with a reusable steel mesh. Microgreen growing mediums cost the user about $5-10 _+ postage per harvest, we've reduced that cost to zero, saving time, money and waste - while creating what we think is the worlds first microgreen kit with a stainless steel growing medium! The new rectangular form allowed for better visibility of sprouts and micogreens, better drainage due to the wide mesh area, easy storage in most kitchens, and of course - an aesthetic design that would fit well in most kitchens. At that point we were ready to commence tooling, and bring to market the worlds first sprout + microgreen growers with reusable stainless steel growing mesh. Thats when we decided to make the basin out of aluminium, quadrupling the price and resulting in an extra month of design work to optimise the design. In all, the sprouthouse had 13 significant design changes, over 100 prototyped parts, and took 9 months to design and manufacture. We definitely committed too much time and effort into getting this product out, but the result is what we can honestly say, we've create the best sprout and microgreen growing kit in the world. https://lnkd.in/gDgz4jDd #industrialdesign #sprouts #productdevelopment #startups

Introducing the... HEIRLOOM PLANTER! https://lnkd.in/gVX67xw6 There’s nothing we love more than nifty gardening methods that make plants grow delightfully well. This passion drove us to develop products that leverage these methods but strip out all complexity, making them accessible to everyone! After a year of work it's finally here. Our Heirloom Planter grows 50-500% faster than traditional soil! Just fill our basin with water and our secret plant nutrients and you’re off! Unlimited water and nutrients causes rapid growth and huge yields. Plus you only have to water it fortnightly - monthly.

Hoocho reviewed our Sun Shelf! For those who may not be already familiar, he's Australia's biggest hydroponics YouTuber and a personal inspiration to us. We've been massive fans for years so super excited to see what he thinks of it! Thanks so much for giving it a look. Watch: https://lnkd.in/gni7D9eY
