Last Thursday evening, we had the honour of hosting the Annual Gold Coast Academy of Sports Awards Evening. This distinguished event celebrated the incredible athletes who have participated in our diverse programs over the past year. With 2024 being a particularly active year, over 620 athletes have competed across various sports.
A huge congratulations to Tori and Lachy for their outstanding achievements and dedication, as they received the Male and Female Athlete of the Year awards!
𝙏𝙤𝙧𝙞 𝙍𝙪𝙨𝙨𝙚𝙡𝙡 - 𝙏𝙚𝙣𝙣𝙞𝙨
Tori has excelled in tennis this year! She placed 5th in the 2024 Australian 14/u Grasscourt National Championships and represented Australia at the 14/u Wimbledon event, finishing 13th. Tori also finished 2nd in the Australian 14/u Clay Court Championships and helped Queensland win the Australian 15/u National Teams Championship. She won the 14/u Europe event in the Netherlands and represented Australia at the 14/u World Junior Tennis Finals in Czechia. Tori is the national 14/u hard court singles and doubles champion and is ranked #2 in Australia for her birth year.
𝙇𝙖𝙘𝙝𝙮 𝘿𝙤𝙣𝙣𝙤𝙡𝙡𝙮 - 𝙋𝙞𝙘𝙠𝙡𝙚𝙗𝙖𝙡𝙡
Lachy's passion for sport led him from soccer to Pickleball, where he has thrived after an injury prompted the switch. Sponsored by Hustle Pickleball and KDV, he has achieved significant milestones:
• Queensland U18 Open Singles Champion (PPA Tour Australia 2024, Gold Coast
• Silver in U18 Open Doubles at the WPC World Pickleball Championships in Bali with teammate Teak
• Triple Crown at the Australian Pickleball Championships 2024 (KDV Sport), winning gold in U18 Open Doubles, Mixed Doubles, and Singles
His accomplishments have earned him the #1 Junior Australian Ranking!
