A social enterprise creating jobs for Young People facing barriers to employment.

About us

Good Cycles is a not-for-profit social enterprise supporting Young People in securing safe and meaningful jobs. We use social and environmental innovation to break down the employment barriers they face. Since 2013 we have been inspired by the bicycle to build a workforce for change. Given young people are more than twice as likely as older people to experience unemployment with a range of barriers to entering the labour market, Good Cycles strives to help them see a brighter future and to be a key part of a workforce that is delivering positive change for their communities. Our Youth Employment Program (YEP) uses a work-first approach, offering jobs to young people aged 18-28, with real income alongside tailored coaching and support. Our ‘learn by doing’ approach is offered with personal choice and an inclusive workplace to deliver technical and transferable skills. Good Cycles aims to have 30% of our staff within YEP, with all receiving adult wages and regular shifts. A combination of long-term employment and support builds confidence, stability, and networks, enabling Young People to continue to overcome barriers and achieve their full potential. We create meaningful jobs with a range of pathways, green jobs of the future and jobs that nurture communities to be cleaner, safer, and healthier. Most of our services use cargo and electric bikes as our primary mode of transport, ensuring we are more efficient and flexible than traditional utes and delivery trucks. Our operations are structured into four divisions: Good Spaces: Large scale green space and asset maintenance services. Good Deliveries: Specialist inner-city delivery, logistics and sustainability services delivered via e-bike. Good Bikes: Bike retail, servicing and tailored micro-mobility services. Good People: Specialist managed workforce partnerships (labour-hire) with values-aligned partners.

Today is World Mental Health Day.   A safe, healthy and supportive workplace provides many benefits, including self-confidence and enjoyment at work and providing purpose, stability and productivity.   Our recent research reveals that young people view employment as more than just a means of earning money. They see employment as a place where different skills are appreciated and diversity is respected, emphasising several non-financial aspects of employment such as opportunities for: 🧡 peer and social connection  🧡 to learn in a supportive, inclusive working environment 🧡 to work alongside diverse people  🧡 for progression   By creating an inclusive and welcoming workplace, we encourage a space where all staff can participate and thrive being their true selves not just today, but every day. We hear this from our Young People but we know this is true for everyone. In addition, we know that having access to appropriate support is important and is there when you need it, anytime and for any concern. Lifeline is available 24/7 on 13 11 14 or online chat.    #GoodCycles #SocialEnterprise #YoungPeople #Employment #WorldMentalHealthDay

We are thrilled to share that Good Cycles has been recognised as a People and Planet First Verified Social Enterprise. It means that we have met the global standards and ethics set by SEWF - Social Enterprise World Forum C.I.C. across five requirements: 🧡 Purpose: we exist to solve a social and/or environmental problem 🧡 Operations: we prioritise purpose, people and planet over profit in operational decisions 🧡 Revenue: we have a self-sustaining revenue model 🧡 Use of surplus: we reinvest all our profits into our purpose 🧡 Structure: we have chosen legal structures and financing that protects and locks in purpose long term.   We are proud of this recognition of our work to break the employment barriers Young People face by creating green jobs of the future. 🌎🌱🚲   #GoodCycles #SocialEnterprise #PeopleAndPlanetFirst #SocialImpact #GlobalChange

Hannah Figueroa from Good Cycles joined our Community Fellows Program in February 2023 as part of the program's fifth cohort. Good Cycles is a not-for-profit social enterprise focused on creating jobs for young people facing barriers to employment. Mentored by Professor Professor Jo Barraket AM, Hannah's fellowship focused on the labour market experiences of young people engaged in Good Cycles’ Youth Employment Program. She examined the individual, structural and systemic factors shaping young people's decisions around employment pathways and engaging in work, as well as their perspectives on the future of work. To learn more about Hannah's fellowship and to access her case study report, visit https://lnkd.in/gCMTqBxe Applications for the Community Fellows Program for 2025 are now open. 🔸 In their words 🔸 We recently released research into understanding the challenges faced by Young People from marginalised backgrounds in gaining employment. This research addressed the lack of qualitative data from Young People themselves, and asked staff in our Youth Employment Program the factors that inform their decisions and aspirations around employment pathways. We need to hear, listen and learn from Young People if meaningful change is able to happen. This research is available for free download on our website: https://lnkd.in/g3WNwimb #GoodCycles #YouthEmploymentProgram #Research #YouthUnemployment

We are so proud of Hassan (and Jaison!) who spoke to Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) about City of Melbourne's decision to ban share e-scooters. As a job-focused social enterprise, we exist to break down employment barriers that marginalised young people face by creating green jobs that nurture communities and the planet. You may not know that Lime is a significant supporter of our Youth Employment Program, both in Victoria and interstate. We have been a proud partner of Lime since 2020, which has provided 149 employment opportunities in Melbourne in this time and 41 current jobs. ABC News covered what this decision means to those it impacts greatly - our staff. Watch the clip here or read more about it on our blog. You can support Good Cycles by signing up to our newsletters and following us on our socials to stay updated as this develops. #GoodCycles #YouthEmploymentProgram #Lime #Micromobility #JobsOfTheFuture

We’re #hiring a new Youth Employment Team Leader in the greater Brisbane area. Due to our expanding partnership with Lime (bikes and scooters) in Coorparoo and Molendinar, we have an exciting opportunity to help establish Good Cycles in southern Queensland. This role will be responsible for managing day-to-day operational requirements of our Youth Employment Program associated to the Lime partnership and overseeing the delivery of high quality, accessible support to employees in our Queensland operations. This role joins a greater team already operating in Melbourne, Geelong and Sydney who are passionate about creating sustainable and meaningful work for young people with jobs that are good for them, their communities and the planet. Since 2013, Good Cycles has been a leader in breaking down employment barriers for marginalised young people. Please apply or share this role, or reach out to Khan Churchill for any further info.
