What possibilities does big data offer for creating smarter, faster, and more accessible healthcare solutions? At the Integrated Photonics and Applications Centre, I see this potential firsthand. In this event: ‘Leveraging big data tools: opportunities in health', I presented together with my colleague Dr. April Kartikasari from the CAVA: Cancer, Ageing and Vaccine Laboratory (RMIT) how we are working on detecting innovative early-stage biomarkers for ovarian cancer diagnosis. Our goal is to create point-of-care solutions for this silent disease, which urgently requires regular, accessible screening for every woman. Our technology is progressing toward single-cell analyses, and we are excited about leveraging AI and big data to process vast amounts of information from hundreds, even thousands, of cells simultaneously. This will enable smarter lab-on-a-chip devices, allowing for real-time monitoring and revealing new mechanistic insights. A huge thank you to Magdalena Plebanski, Matt Duckham, and Xavier Mulet, RMIT Enabling Impact Platforms Directors, for organizing such an inspiring event! It was fantastic to connect with everyone and explore new ideas for collaboration across disciplines and industry partners.
