Today is National Close the Gap Day, which is celebrated on the third Thursday in March. The Close the Gap campaign arose in response to Professor Tom Calma’s Social Justice Report )2005), in which he describes the social factors underlying in Australia and challenging governments to being parity within a generation. Closing the Gap Day is a day of action focused on advocating for health equality between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous Australians, aiming to close the gap in health and life expectancy. The National Closing Gap Agreement outlines ambitious outcomes and priority reforms to improve life outcomes for Indigenous Australians, emphasizing the need for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to determine, drive, and own the desired outcomes. The National Closing Gap Agreement is centred around four Priority Reforms to transform the way governments work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and includes 17 socio-economic outcomes, five of which are education-related. The "Agency, Leadership, Reform" theme for National Close the Gap Day 2025 emphasizes the importance of First Nations people having a say in policies and services that affect them, with a focus on leadership and structural changes to achieve better outcomes. The theme acknowledges that real progress requires a fundamental shift in how governments and organisations work with First Nations communities, moving towards shared decision-making and community-led initiatives. https://lnkd.in/gaYQMmqA You can also watch a live stream of the Close The Gap Campaign Report 2025 event here: https://lnkd.in/gVgPPtMU #closethegap #aboriginalandtorresstraitislanders #firstnations #selfdetermination #Indigenous

Our co-Founder Ryan James telling it like it is. There is so much we can learn from our Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander custodians. But we can't start to really understand we take the initiative to go out on-Country. Once you "Get that dirt between your toes..." the true learning and listening experience begins. This is why in our work with Community organisations, we always make it a point to be on Country to meet with Community stakeholders and elders before we take on or start any engagement. Thank you AgriFutures evokeAG for providing a platform to share our collective stories on such an important topic.
Why aren't Indigenous-led initiatives in agriculture and agritech getting the visibility and support they deserve? 🌟 Our collaboration with the brilliant minds at Bond Business School has birthed something truly special - a #FirstNations business case study focused on the iconic Minjungbal Museum and Cultural Centre ✨ A massive shout out to Dr. Vishal Mehrotra, Colette Southam, Ivey Business School at Western University's Prof. Paul Beamish for making this happen. We're on a mission to create vibrant pathways for Indigenous businesses, and this is just the beginning. #FirstNations #BusinessEducation #StrategicMarketing #IndigenousInnovation #MMCC #BondBusinessSchool
Assistant Professor @ Bond University | PhD in Marketing | Program Director - Business & Management Programs
We are delighted to share our #firstnations focused business case study published and now available across Ivey Publishing, Harvard Business Publishing, The Case Centre, and other major case collections. #BondBusinessSchool has an ongoing commitment to supporting indigenous businesses. In furthering this commitment, we delivered a #strategicmarketing project for the iconic Minjungbal Museum and Cultural Centre (MMCC) as part of my Capstone Strategic Marketing subject. The project was formally approved by the board of the Tweed Aboriginal Co-operative Society Ltd (which manages this important cultural treasure) and represented a great learning experience for my marketing students. My colleagues Colette Southam, Alex Beamish and I have turned the MMCC story into a multi-layered first nations business case. It immerses students in a unique indigenous business replete with its challenges, opportunities and complexities making it an excellent problem-solving case for #postgraduate and advanced #undergraduate courses in #Marketing, #StrategicMarketing, #CrossculturalMarketing and #StrategicManagement. If you are a marketing or management academic, we invite you to adopt this case in appropriate courses. If you are interested in this case or would like to learn more about it we would love to hear from you. Special acknowledgements to Ryan James and Yohann Azlee of Indigenous Innovation Ventures for their support and assistance in getting this case finalised.
