Elder and philosopher Uncle Jim Everett - Puralia meenamatta explained the need for Law in Country in his debut piece for IndigenousX. "These ‘sovereign crowns’ continue to assert their laws from countries in the northern hemisphere over First Nations that have been invaded, and for us it’s the British sovereign crown. In my view we need to change from using the term sovereign(ty) to assert our rights of self-determination and governance. Instead, we should acknowledge our Law in Country." 🔗 Read full story: https://lnkd.in/gKctaFHd ✊🏾 Support Uncle Jim and follow @standwithuncjim 📷 Photos featured in this story are by Photographer Jillian Mundy @jillian_mundy

What does Survivance mean? “Vizenor coined the term “survivance” to describe the active presence and ongoing resistance of Indigenous peoples against colonial narratives and erasure, emphasising the importance of storytelling and cultural survival.” Quote from Clinton Hayden's new article "Survivance: How can mob protect cultural narratives in our arts and practices?" #onthisday nearly 49 years ago, the Hawke government returned Uluru to the Anangu People, after decades of Campaigning by First Nations peoples across the country. “The land was being returned to its original owners, so we were happy. Long ago Anangu were afraid because they were pushed out of their lands. And because of that Anangu left. But now a lot of people want to come back. That’s good. It’s our place, our land.” - Reggie Uluru

"The big thing I hope many are starting to wake up to is that there is no such thing as non-racism. There is racism and there is anti-racism. If you aren’t engaging with anti-racism in your organisation then you are letting racism flourish, unnamed and unchallenged." Quote by Luke Pearson via Linkedin
