Last Thursday, we had the privilege of hosting an Appreciative Inquiry Workshop facilitated by Mitra Gusheh from Glebe Youth Service. Appreciative Inquiry (AI) is a narrative-rich approach that brings teams, communities, and organisations together to create a shared vision for change and informed action. By focusing on what works, AI uncovers the strengths within a system, guiding us on where to act and what to invest in to enhance positive outcomes. This asset-based framework shifts our focus from barriers and problems to strengths and possibilities. Instead of dwelling on challenges, it encourages us to celebrate what functions well in our lives, services, and communities. Throughout the workshop, we engaged in meaningful conversations through interviews with colleagues, witnessing the transformative power of this approach. By centring our inquiry around the positive, we collaboratively identified our aspirations for the future, envisioning a inclusive and built society for all. One attendee shared, “I left the workshop hopeful and energised about the future and social change. I’m excited to apply Appreciative Inquiry in both my personal and professional life!” Thank you to Mitra for guiding us through this inspiring experience! Together, we’re paving the way for positive change and collaboration.

⏰Don't forget to register for our Appreciative Inquiry Training this Thursday ⏰ Brought to you by Inner Sydney Voice and Glebe Youth Service, Appreciative Inquiry (AI) training is a narrative-rich approach that can help teams, communities, and organisations come together to create a shared vision for change or to undertake collectively informed action. Beginning with developing an understanding of what works, the approach uncovers the strengths within a system. This knowledge can then determine where and how to act and what to invest in to get more of what works – improving outcomes across a system. This workshop will: ⭐ Introduce you to Appreciative Inquiry and the theories that underpin this approach. ⭐Explore the '5 generic processes' as one approach to applying Appreciative Inquiry as a practice methodology. ⭐Strengthen your capacity to use appreciative, strength-based and participatory approaches more broadly as part of your engagement practice. A big thank you to the Green Square residents who attended our recent Civic Participation Workshop on Social Media Strategy. It was fantastic to see so many local projects and causes, all focused on making a positive impact within the community. We’d also like to thank the City of Sydney for supporting the development of essential social infrastructure that empowers residents with the tools to build and grow their initiatives online. We’re excited to see how these projects will continue to benefit the Green Square area and beyond. #GreenSquare #CivicParticipation #CommunityBuilding #SocialMediaStrategy #CityOfSydney #SocialInfrastructure

The first generation of young adults to grow up with social media can teach us a thing or two about online safety. As policymakers, parents, and young people debate how best to address social media’s risks, it might be worth listening to those who have already navigated their teens online and come out the other side. Their insights can help bridge the gap between strong emotions and practical solutions. In the latest edition of Inner Sydney Voice, Elena Macdonald looks beyond a ban. Drawing from her own experiences, she delves into the complexities faced by young people growing up online and proposes a path towards a safer and more engaging social media environment for the future. #SocialMediaSummitNSWSA #socialmediaban #YouthESafety https://lnkd.in/gSZuj5Hf

Today, we acknowledge the anniversary of the Voice Referendum, a difficult day for many people and an opportunity to renew our commitment to building a future shaped by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices, knowledge, and leadership. Revisit our 'YES from the Heart: Special Referendum Edition' to read why ISV supported the process of Truth, Treaty, and Voice and why work to progress these three elements should continue. https://lnkd.in/g3mfTEmH

As one of the wealthiest countries in the world, we can afford to look after everyone. It’s not right that one in six Australian children lives in poverty and relies on food banks every week. It also isn’t inevitable—we made great strides in the 1990s when the government committed to ending child poverty. It wasn’t eliminated, but it was reduced by 30 percent. We can look to these solutions: investing in early years, increasing family payments, single parent payments, and Newstart. More affordable housing and ensuring all parents can access effective back-to-work schemes would also greatly help. This Anti-Poverty Week (13-19 October 2024), community organisations and national campaigns are urging us all to take action to lift three million Australians out of poverty – with webinars, forums, films, petitions, and BBQs. This year Anti-Poverty Week is working with three national campaigns taking action to end poverty in Australia: #raisetherate, #endchildpoverty and #betterhousingfuture. Raise the Rate petition calls on the Federal Government to raise the rate of JobSeeker, Youth Allowance, and related payments to at least $82 a day, in line with the Age Pension, to enable people going through tough times to live with dignity. Everybody's Home calls on all parties and Federal candidates to sign up to the Roadmap to Reform and commit to - Raising the rate of JobSeeker and related payments - Strong, consistent protection for renters - Phasing in tax reform - Building 940,000 social homes within 20 years End Child Poverty encourages people to host a Chat for Change, print and display the End Child Poverty Poster, play the video, promote the petition and make a support video to share on social media. End Child Poverty campaign partners met with key politicians to advocate for legislation to define, measure and set up reporting frameworks to address child poverty. Head to the Anti-Poverty website to take action and discover what events are happening near you this week: antipovertyweek.org.au

Inner Sydney Voice recognises the work of service providers in delivering early intervention and prevention results across our region. The service system must continuously evolve to improve outcomes for children, young people, and families. The answer lies in stronger communities. We have collated the thoughts and views of our service sector representatives and have given advice to the NSW Department of Communities and Justice on where to go next with the draft Program Specifications for TEI and FCS.
