Introducing our newest portable rig “Looie” named after the amazing wife of one of our long serving employees. This little tracked machine has 2 anchor points to provide reaction and maximum push capacity is 150kN. She’s capable of doing most of our in situ testing and sampling types. Today she’s being tested out by Aldo, before she travels off to Papua New Guinea for her first job, where she’ll be helicoptered into site with our crew.

Super excited with the arrival of another Medusa SDMT from our friends at #StudioProfMarchetti. We are having great success with our existing #MedusaDMT units, which we think are one of the greatest advancements in in-situ testing in the last 30 years. Watch this space for DMT-RA (Repeated A) and DMT-WP (Whilst Penetrating) testing in combination with the usual DMT testing. #medusadmt #DMT #SDMT #Medusa #groundcharacterisation #tailings #insitutesting #Geomechancis #insitugeotechservices #innovation

Please see the flyer below regarding an up-coming webinar by Diego Marchetti and Sara Amoroso. It’s our view that this webinar will be more than very useful. It’s also our view that the Medusa is probably the most significant site investigation tool developed in the last 30 years.

Throwback Thursday! On 2 August 2024, geomechanics professionals gathered in Canberra for the Australian Geomechanics Society ACT Insitu Testing Practical Workshop. The event focused on practical demonstrations of key insitu testing methods, including Cone Penetration Testing (CPT), Static Plate Load Test (PLT), Dynamic Probing Super Heavy (DPSH), Light Weight Deflectometers (LWD), PANDA [variable energy] Probe, Automated Dynamic Cone Penetrometer (DCP) and other essential tools and techniques. Led by Dr David Lacey and Robin Power, the workshop gave participants hands-on experience and a chance to discuss the application of these methods. Special thanks to our sponsors; FSG Geotechnics & Foundations, GeoSmart Solutions, Insitu Geotech Services Pty Ltd and Insitutek who mobilised gear from interstate to make the workshop happen, Projex Building Group for providing access to their construction site (especially to Brendon Goodchild for hosting us) and to everyone who attended. Allan McConnell, IGS’s Founder, in front of the Birdsville Pub, 1979. Allan was out at Birdsville conducting a ground investigation for the new Shire Hall, working under his first company, McConnell & Associates. Despite there having recently been a fire apparently the bar was still open. Allan says this was one of the most colourful nights of his life. To this day, Allan is still a trend setter in all areas of his life, including work and fashion.

On the 15th & 16th of August IGS had our annual training days beginning at the Virginia Golf Club. Almost every IGS Employee, travelling from QLD, NSW & VIC attended. After our Managing Director, Mark Chapman delivered the Company overview, we first celebrated one of our longest serving employees, Tony Hitchcock. Tony has been with IGS for 20 years as of August. We have benefited and continue to benefit from Tony’s hard work, great attitude and loyalty. We then went on to cover, · CPT 101 and 102 - delivered by our founder, Allan McConnell. · Meeting client’s needs – delivered by a much respected client of ours. · An overview of Mental Health at work – delivered by John Hannan from Gryphon. Which covered, * Recognising signs of poor mental health in yourself and others. * What to do about it. * How to access the external mental health services provided by IGS to Employees and Directors. · New Vane, Medusa DMT and Magneto, use of and maintenance – delivered by Mark Chapman · AURTGA001 Drive and manoeuvre trailers, which included trailer maintenance and safety – delivered by Link Training · Rig recovery, Load and Unloading Rigs, Remote Controlling Rigs – delivered by our General Manager, Mick O’Rourke with Ben Withers. We always enjoy our annual training days, as it gives our nomadic crew a chance to come together to discuss safety and work procedures, give input to improve wherever we can, introduce new staff members to existing staff members, enjoy each other’s company in general and most importantly get our yearly group photo.

The attached Newsletter shows that IGS has been busy again in our non-core but cherished activities of “learning and teaching”. We love to attend and contribute to conferences and we love interacting in training sessions with clients. In fact there’s more of the latter happening just this week, in Perth. If you wanna be part of this – just call.
