🌾 October Mental Health Month 🌱 At Isis Central Sugar Mill, we believe taking care of your mind is just as important as taking care of your body. We are proud to be connected with Acacia EAP (Employee Assistance Program), which offers valuable resources to support our team's mental health. Here are a just a couple of tips: - Connect with self: Take care of yourself, do something you enjoy, make healthy choices, and seek help when needed. - Connect with nature: Take a break from technology, spend time outdoors, embrace mindfulness, and take care of the world around you. - Connect with community: Be supportive and inclusive, look after one another, and connect with culture. Show kindness and initiate connection with those who are struggling. Mental health is a critical part of our overall well being. Just as we take proactive steps to enhance our physical health—like engaging a personal trainer to improve fitness—we should apply the same mindset to our mental health.

Staff BBQ checks in on R U OK Day Thursday was the annual R U OK Day which is a national day of action to support mental health in Australia. As part R U OK Day, we ran staff BBQs across the morning and afternoon shift starts. Board directors and senior managers were on hand to do the cooking and have a chat to staff as they came through. While this was an event held on one day a year, we are urged to check in with family, friends and co-workers EVERY day to check how they are going, especially when life has its ups and downs. We encourage you to have regular conversations to talk about what’s really going on, so when the people in your world find themselves struggling, they know you’re someone they can talk to. Remember, that conversation could change a life!

Isis Mill keeps it all in the family The average Australian stays in a job for just 3.3 years and very few businesses have inter-generational employment now, so having eight family members spread over four generations working for the same company is incredibly rare and yet that’s what members of the Lunn family have done at Isis Central Sugar Mill. Isis Mill CEO Craig Wood said the relatives of the McDonald/Lunn family had worked, trained and progressed through the Mill with a grandfather, father, brothers, wife, sons, siblings and in-laws all at some stage being on the payroll of the Mill. Isis Mill workers are the strength of our Mill with their skills and dedication enabling us to support growers and shareholders over more than 100 years. Tony Lunn, Mill Engineering Coordinator Operations, has been at Isis Mill for 35 years and proudly recounts the employment of his grandfather, father, brother, wife, sons and in-laws in the long line of Mill employees. His grandfather, Fred McDonald, started working at the Mill in the 1960s. Then, father Col Lunn was the Fitting Shop Foreman for 44 years. Tony's brother John did his apprenticeship as a Fitter and Turner then progressed to Cad Draftsman and then Tony started in 1989 as an apprentice. His wife Helen started working in the Mill labs before moving into weighbridge operations then now fulfilling her long held dream of being a worker on the Mill locos as an Offsider. Tony and Helen’s eldest son, Nicholas, is a Diesel Mechanic at the Mill with their middle son, Chris, working in warehouse management and their youngest son Ben starting as a Store Person in April. Amazingly, it’s not just the Lunn’s but Helen’s side of the family that also have worked at the Mill with her father Ian Haaksma and her brother also having been employed as a Labourer and Apprentice Boiler Maker respectively. CEO Announced for Isis Mill Back in 1979, a young apprentice fitter and turner started work at Isis Central Sugar Mill. Today he was appointed CEO of that same Mill after a distinguished 34 year career in the sugar industry. Isis Central Sugar Mill chairman Shaun Tobin announced the appointment of Craig Wood as the new Isis Mill CEO. Craig Wood started his working life here as an apprentice and now he has come full circle, returning to live in the region and head up the Mill that first started his long career in the sugar industry. Craig had worked as a shift fitter, design engineer, reliability engineer, engineering manager and then as an operations manager, right up to General Manager Operations for CSR/Wilmar’s seven factories. During that 34 years, he spent 13 years as Site Manager at Marian, Pioneer and Invicta sugar mills. Craig said he was delighted to be appointed as CEO after being in the Interim CEO position since April. "My ambition is to develop a road map that will ensure this Mill is still here in another 100 years, supporting the community, our workers, our growers and shareholders," Craig said.

Have you ever saved a life? Just sign up to be a blood donor! Last week was National Blood Donor Week but it was also a milestone for Paul Nicol who clocked up his 151st donation! That's an unbelievable commitment. Paul started donating blood on occasion when he first joined Isis Mill. Later when his mother was ill, he became a frequent donor and he's continued to this day. "Donating blood doesn't take long but it leaves a lasting legacy where you can save someone's life. Making that kind of difference to a sick child or adult is very rewarding." Isis Mill workers can donate blood under the Mill's staff team ... see how many lives our workers are improving and saving. Give it a go!
