Could you walk 35km in one day? That’s exactly what our Stakeholder and Approvals Manager Jodi Wood did last month when she took part in the Bloody Long Walk in Brisbane to raise money for mitochondrial disease - a genetic disorder that robs the body’s cells of energy, causing organ dysfunction or failure. Jodi raised more than $1,200 to help fund essential research and support people affected by the disease. What an amazing effort Jodi!! Jemena is proud to support the volunteering and fundraising efforts of our people by contributing $500 towards eligible fundraising events and organisations where our people regularly volunteer their time.

Senior leaders across our Group recently embarked on an Environment Leadership Walk, visiting the Zinfra Pakenham Depot, and the Longford Compressor Station which delivers gas to VIC, NSW, ACT, and TAS. The immersive walk was designed to deepen understanding of the environmental aspects associated with the work we do each day to deliver energy to homes and businesses. It was a memorable experience for all involved - especially getting up close to the compressors and turbines at the compressor station. Importantly, the walk facilitated discussions on opportunities for enhancements in line with our commitment to caring for our people, the environment, and the community. Did you know we have a proud history of partnering with Indigenous communities throughout the development of major projects and in areas where we operate? Our partnerships have included the ‘Pipeline to Success’ program with Saltbush Social Enterprises which has evolved into the ‘Foundation to Future’ program, a wholistic support service that will target Aboriginal people from a number of entry pathways. And through our annual Community Grants program, we have provided support to a range of Indigenous led and focused initiatives. We also donate to groups that support young people’s education, health and wellbeing and connection to culture. We have a strong desire to continue to build on these foundations through the commitments we make in our recently launched Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), which will see us develop more opportunities for Indigenous community involvement through our RAP commitment of Connecting to Country – Connecting with Community. Great to build relationships during a recent visit to our Western Sydney Hydrogen Hub with an Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) delegation of energy officials from Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) countries. The visit was part of DFAT’s ongoing support to the Asian Development Bank as secretariat for the GMS Energy Transition Taskforce. Broadly, the group supports GMS cooperation on promoting regional power trading and enhancing energy efficiency. We were able to share insights on our renewable energy programs, such as the Western Sydney Hydrogen Hub which is demonstrating how hydrogen could play a leading role in emissions reduction. A big thanks to all the retailers and business representatives who attended the Jemena Retailer and Electricity Business Forum on 17 July! More than 40 attendees took part in the event which saw Jemena’s Managing Director David Gillespie speak about our plans to transition our electricity and gas networks for the future while focusing on affordability, reliability and sustainability. Discussions were also had around how we communicate with our customers during major events, and how Jemena can work with retailers and businesses to better serve our customers. Lots of great questions and conversations were had throughout the day!

Have you seen our amazing Innovate RAP artwork by Chern'ee Sutton, a proud Kalkadoon woman & Aboriginal artist from Mount Isa? Some fun facts about this artwork: 🟠 The orange circle in her painting represents the sun, and just like the sun, we provide energy 🐍 The rainbow serpent represents respect, connection to the land and Aboriginal people and culture, with the coloured dotted circles in the background symbolising the rugged Australian landscape on which we work. We thank Chern’ee for sharing her culture and history through her art. There is so much more meaning included in this artwork – you can learn more about it and our commitment to ‘Connecting to Country – Connecting with Community’ in our recently launched Innovate RAP: https://lnkd.in/gvZAN66w

We know that 3 in 10* people living in Australia were born overseas and that they face greater challenges when navigating the energy transition. As part of Jemena’s Electricity Distribution Regulatory Proposal for 2026-31, we have been engaging deeply with customers from a multicultural background to understand their views and preferences when it comes to the future of energy. We spoke to Johan Ng, our Commercial Manager for Electricity Distribution and Customer Voice Group Champion for customers from a multicultural background, about his experience. “I’m passionate about customers. That’s what I do. That’s what I deal with every day so it’s really ensuring that we have an opportunity to go out and listen to our customers and get their opinions, it hit home for me. Being part of a multicultural background myself, I can empathise and understand where they are coming from. The fact that I can go in there and support them to ensure their voices are being heard is really valuable.” For Jemena, the Price Reset is an opportunity to confirm customer product and service expectations and secure revenue to support efficient investment and operations to deliver these expectations. Jemena will submit an initial proposal to the AER on 30 January 2025. Interesting insights from peak body, Energy Networks Australia including key recommendations to support a renewable gas industry in Australia. Renewable gas has a vital role to play in helping Australia’s industrial and manufacturing sector to decarbonise and reach net-zero by 2050. ENA’s key recommendations are: ✔ A certification scheme for all renewable gases. The scheme should also consider how renewable gases can be recognised under the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Scheme 💲 Expanding the $4 billion Hydrogen Headstart Program to include biomethane: Include biomethane in the program, with additional funding, to boost its scale-up and development. 🎯A Renewable Gas Target (RGT) for Australian industry by 2030: Incorporate policy designs for an RGT in the Commonwealth sectoral plans, as part of Australia’s net-zero plan, ensuring appropriate targets are set by 2030. In case you missed it...our Gas Networks’ 2025 Plan was submitted to the Australian Energy Regulator (AER) this month. If you don’t know us, we’re your local gas network. We transport the gas you use every day, and we’ve been on a journey with our customers that has spanned more than 18 months, 206 hours' worth of engagement, and just under 100 separate engagement events. Our 2025 Plan details our pricing and services for the 2025-30 period and reflects what our customers have told us is important to them. It includes 10 initiatives, shaped by our customers, for us to action: 🔵 Invest in renewable gas connections 🟢 Speed up the recovery of $300m in assets 🔵 Take a targeted approach to gas mains replacement 🟢 Invest in technology (Picarro cars) to detect gas leaks 🔵 Increase the user pays portion of new connections 🟢 Enhance our vulnerable customer program 🔵 Replace 8,000 aging, defective and hard-to-reach meters with new digital meters 🟢 Retain a user pays approach to permanent disconnections 🔵 Implement changes to our tariff structures 🟢 Implement a hybrid form of price control We believe our 2025 Plan balances the needs of our customers today with future generations, mainly through upfront actions and investment that is aimed at supporting a fair and equitable energy transition. The AER will now review and assess our plan. To find out more visit https://lnkd.in/gHDuMMhh #Energy #consultation #renewablegas #gascustomers #customers #AER
