In 1986, Danny Hoelscher started as the only terminal operator at Brisbane’s Bulwer Island LPG Terminal, filling a few hundred bottles a day in shorts and a t-shirt. Fast forward 39 years – LPG demand has skyrocketed, technology has transformed operations, and safety is paramount. But one thing hasn’t changed: Danny’s dedication. Now nearing retirement, he’s passing on decades of expertise to the next generation. Thanks for everything, Danny – you’re a true legend in our industry. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gF8yztn9
About us
Origin is one of Australia's leading energy companies, exploring, generating and delivering energy to over 4 million customer accounts. Our purpose – getting energy right for our customers, communities and planet – drives everything we do. As Australia's largest energy retailer, we have an important role to play in providing electricity, natural gas, solar and LPG to Australian communities and work every day to make energy more affordable, more sustainable, smarter and easier for our customers. We are committed to leading the transition to a cleaner energy future and believe our company, and the energy industry more broadly, should be at the forefront of action to reduce carbon emissions. Origin was the first Australian company to set an emissions reduction target endorsed by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) – aiming to halve our Scope 1 and Scope 2 carbon emissions by 2032, as we work towards achieving net zero emissions by 2050. Through the Origin Energy Foundation, we support programs that use education to help break the cycle of disadvantage and empower young Australians to reach their potential, contributing more than $27 million to support community organisations since 2010. Through the Origin Energy Foundation’s partnership with Kilfinan Australia, leaders at Origin like Jon Briskin are volunteering their time to mentor not-for-profit leaders, sharing their experiences and helping them make an even bigger impact. Jon’s mentorship with Brent Phillips, Chief Services Officer at Deaf Connect , is a great example of how powerful these connections can be. Have you had a mentor who made a difference in your career? Or have you mentored someone and seen the impact first-hand? Let us know in the comments. Full story here: https://lnkd.in/gayy2Suu

This week, the energy regulators announced their draft pricing recommendations for 2025/26 for the Victorian Default Offer (VDO) and Default Market Offer (DMO). These default offers apply to electricity customers on ‘standing offers’ and are the maximum price retailers can charge customers on these contracts. There's no change to prices today. The final decisions on the VDO and DMO are due from the regulators in late May, with any price changes to take effect from July. For any customers experiencing hardship and having trouble paying their bills, we have a range of ways we can help. We encourage anyone needing support to contact us.

Promoting STEM learning and EVs are two of our favourite things, which is why we've supported the ANU Solar Racing team's recent regional NSW showcase. The ANU team travelled in Origin EVs from Canberra to Wagga Wagga, Griffith, Bathurst, Orange and Dubbo, hosting hands-on workshops for high school students and testing their solar race car ahead of the 2025 Bridgestone World Solar Challenge.

A new wave of talent is stepping into our upstream gas operations, with our latest intake of apprentices and trainees - including seven women and four First Nations recruits - ready to learn, innovate, and shape the future of energy. For mechanical apprentice Sarah-Cait Kirkland, a proud Gomeroi and Yuwaalaraay woman, this journey is more than just a job - it’s an opportunity to inspire others. “It’s empowering to see strong female and Indigenous representation among this year's intake of apprentices and trainees. I hope to be a role model for others looking to enter the industry,” Sarah-Cait says. We're committed to investing in people, supporting local communities, and ensuring a strong, skilled workforce for the future. Welcome aboard, team.

Showing support to the communities where we operate is something we're passionate about, and we were delighted to be part of this year's Jerilderie Fun Fair. Members of our team spent the day in Jerilderie – home of the proposed Yanco Delta Wind Farm – connecting with community members, discussing the project, and providing support to customers with their energy accounts.
