Play is a whole lot more fun with a buddy or a few. Thank you Bel Ryan for having us along to deliver part of Ignite Wellbeing Co.’s excellent series of workshops for small and family businesses. We used Lego Serious Play to reflect on what great workplace wellbeing looks like and how to take a step to better. Setting better boundaries was a big key theme! As was the importance of seeking support from experts for help with very sticky workplace situations. There’s still plenty of great sessions in Bel’s series, all heavily subsidised for South Australian small & family businesses. Check out the upcoming dates on the website 👇 https://lnkd.in/gSGVGF6y #play #leadwithplay #legoseriousplay #workplaceculture #wellbeing #boundaries #strategicthinking #smallbusiness

Do you ever just hang out with a cool tree? You can just sit with them and rest, or you can spend time really “encountering” them. This practice from EMERGENCE Magazine prompts you to encounter a tree through the senses, illuminating the threads of connection between one sentient being and another. It starts with going outside and finding a tree that you feel drawn to: perhaps in your front yard, growing in the park down the street, or newly met on a hike through the forest. Go out with the intention of dedicating time to spend with this tree. Folks. You are allowed to draw on walls! Seek appropriate permission first of course, and if you’re a leader think about how you can give permission to people to literally make a mark in the place they spend so much of their working day. Maybe you can’t draw on the walls, but what about allowing a goldfish or plants on the desk? Or let people choose their own chair colour? Or really go to town having fun decorating a private staff space like the kitchen? Or encourage regular changing of Teams / Zoom backgrounds based on daily mood 💭 Bravo Dr Michael Filosi for encouraging safe creativity in a professional healthcare setting 👏👏👏 #play #leadwithplay #creativity #workplacedesign #inspiration #innovation #culture #positiveaffirmations #positivepsychology
I got very close to having pink flamingos on my office wall. The interior designer offered it as an outrageous wallpaper option to cut against the grain of a conservative dental practice and to her surprise I loved the idea. And then...... I got cold feet. I towed the conservative line, and ever since it has nagged at me that I missed an opportunity to do something fun, something interesting, something unique. I decided if another opportunity came up that captured that same sense of joy, I was going to jump right in. Recently I finished reading "The Creative Act" by Rick Rubin and was looking at my office wall when inspiration struck. My office wall could be a canvas. I could use it as my own personal muse, as an exercise in collective storytelling, imagination and fun. I purchased a box set of acrylic paint markers along with every colour permanent marker I could get my hands on. I asked my team to mark out 30 cm by 30 cm squares. And then I stepped up and decorated the first square. I let my mind's eye bring forth with what it sees. Shapes, colours, mostly order, a little bit of chaos. That's what I see when I close my eyes, it's how my brain thinks. In the weeks and months to come the wall will continue to grow as new squares are added. Those I'm close to who mean something to me (I hope) will take up my offer to draw on my office wall next time they are in my neck of the woods. Each person will get a square to fashion in whichever way they want, I don't mind, the floor (or wall in this case) is theirs. There have been nine contributions so far in the first couple of weeks. I love every one of them. I don't mind how anyone fills their square, that's up to them. There are no wrong answers. I want to look at it and smile, enjoy at the creations, wonder as to their significance, draw inspiration.. So, when was the last time someone asked you to draw on their wall?

It’s in the innovation hype-cycle but we’ve got 5-10 years before Lego Serious Play becomes truly mainstream. Who wants to help us get it there faster?! 🙋♀️ #play #leadwithplay #legoseriousplay #innovation #hypecycle #trends #businessstrategy #strategy #gartner
Helping teams make the most of each other. Strategy, change, team development and project facilitator. Creator of the Playful Principles®. LEGO Serious Play facilitator
Having delivered LEGO Serious Play workshops for more than 10 years across a wide range of organisations—large corporates, start-ups, government departments, charities, and universities—it’s fab to see LSP featured in Gartner’s 2024 Hype Cycle for Innovation Practices. It’s great that LSP is gaining visibility as it rises in the ‘Innovation Trigger’ section of the curve and enters the ‘early mainstream’ phase of Gartner’s maturity model. With only 1-5% market penetration, it’s an exciting time to reach beyond the early adopters and create even more impact. One slight reservation is that, as LSP gains visibility in the innovation space, those unfamiliar with the method may mistakenly see it as just a glorified brainstorming tool. In reality, LSP goes far beyond that—it’s a transformative method for thinking, communicating, and problem-solving. Its real strength lies in how it disrupts conventional thinking, driving deeper collective insights, engagement, and commitment from participants. In my work, I use it most in strategy and change, team development and project kick-offs or troubleshooting—where its potential to create real impact shines through (often with both immediate and long term impact - some examples here: https://lnkd.in/eziG2yp7). LSP isn’t just about generating ideas; it’s about unlocking new ways of understanding and solving complex problems. If you’d like to join the early mainstream and find out how LSP can help you to make the most of everyone as you address your most pressing challenges, do get in touch. #LEGOSeriousPlay #Innovation #Facilitation #Strategy #TeamDevelopment #Leadership #ProjectKickoff #CollectiveInsight

Former-kid: how do I start sprinkling some play back in to my adult life? Erin: start in the smallest of ways, like confetti. Wear something fun. Use different coloured pens. Laugh at a podcast in traffic. Or take a silly photo when you sign in as a visitor on purpose… it’s not your passport photo and no one else will ever look at it. Just practice being playful! The ripples will build. And you can also book a 1:1 freebie play-date with me and we can work it out together 😊 book in via Calendly here: https://lnkd.in/gR5U7Bmn Ps thanks for having me back again to foster creative connection in your epic teams Liz Renton, Leanne Robinson, Saibeth Walls 🤩 #play #leadwithplay #habitstacking #habits #playfulness #creativity #connection #communication #wellbeing #coaching

Real talk. We obviously spruik that former-kids benefit from more playful approaches to tackling some of our most complex personal, professional and social challenges... but remember forced fun is no fun ok! 🫣 If you're not sure how to navigate that minefield get in touch and we can help you map it out with your team 🗺️ #play #LeadWithPlay #PsychologicalSafety #connection #teamwork #wellbeing #MentalHealth #PositivePsychology

Michael Fearne is Australia’s, nay one of the world’s, most prolific Lego Serious Play certifiers, facilitators and thought leaders. Delighted to spend some time sharing knowledge, metaphors and failabrations in his excellent podcast. Time for another LSP Method Podcast! In Episode 10 I talk with Erin Faehrmann, and we range across A LOT of topics. From Erin's wonderful approach to bringing play to work to taking your LEGO to job interviews. We talk sabbaticals and portfolio careers, different uses of LSP and the topic of fail-a-brations - where I even share a story about me peeing my pants as a youngster. That's right we go there! It was such a good conversation. Erin has a very unique and well thought out way she brings Play into the workplace. Lots of great tips and mindset shifts that many of us could take onboard. Thank you Erin 🙏 for both your energy and passion for your work and the relaxed and chilled nature you bring to the conversation. It was such an easy chat, yet so much goodness weaved in there. Check out the 55 minute conversation below: Youtube: https://lnkd.in/gReDnS6E Apple: https://lnkd.in/gNYfNUqz Spotify: https://lnkd.in/gXAFNnym And keep an eye out for more episodes this week! “I can’t create without instructions” a participant told me when the Lego bag was placed on the table before our session. “No problem, start with a duck”, I say, “and whatever you create is perfect”. That’s the way with Lego Serious Play. Fast forward an hour, to after the facilitated workshop where we created + shared models to represent what we need to be our best at work, and what we need when we’re not our best at work. I’m packing up and the participant walks over. “I made that duck we talked about” 🤯 I mean, whatever our participants create IS perfect, it’s just that often folks create something a little simpler like on the left and the one on the right is very different and very cool. People’s creativity when given the permission and mental space to “play” never stops surprising me! Just another day at play-work for Erin, Chief Play Officer 🤸 #play #leadwithplay #legoseriousplay #lego #creativity #teambuikding #communication #trust #psychologicalsafety #innovation #curiosity
