Supporting every woman's potential.

About us

*Previously known as Womens Health & Family Services* Luma exists to improve lives. An organisation grown from the belief that women deserve to be recognised for who they are, valued for what they bring to the communities they are part of, and supported in ways that allow them to grow and thrive. A philosophy that shapes our services, inspires our staff, and drives our commitment to making sure every woman leaves feeling empowered, not just resolved. Our success is her feeling whole. Her household feeling supported. Her achieving more than she thought possible. Because by seeing all of her, we help her see what she is truly capable of.

Our two fabulous nurses (Renee and Jen) soaked up the new findings at this incredible event in Melbourne with around 2,500 other medical professionals. Thank you for having us International Menopause Society (IMS). The future of menopause is certainly looking brighter. We're excited to continue using the latest research to set women up for success as they enter this transitional phase in their lives. It can be tough, or often impossible, to find a women's health medical specialist in regional areas. So, we're excited to be bringing our medical support to women in the Pilbara! We've partnered with Hedland Well Women's Centre and BHP to deliver general practitioner support to women in Hedland. This means clients at Hedland Women's Centre can connect to our women's health specialist GP's during their appointment with a nurse, through telehealth. Another step towards ensuring every woman has access to high-quality healthcare ✨ #LumaMedical #womenshealthGP #womenshealth

Only 48% of women reached out for support when they were experiencing mental ill-health in 2024 🧠 This doesn't surprise us, as we know many women prefer to charge ahead on their own, or they see reaching out as a sign of weakness. Our world has come a long way with breaking down this stigma. But stats don't lie - we still have a long way to go. For working women, the leading causes for deteriorating mental health are burnout, mental load and work/life juggle. A friendly reminder for #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek that you can reach out for support WHENEVER you like, whether you're experiencing mental ill-health, or not. Counselling and mental health programs are available at Luma for any women over the age of 18. A big shout out to Liptember Foundation for publishing comprehensive women's mental health research, it's organisations like this who are bridging the gap ❤️ 🔗 Full 2024 study: https://shorturl.at/8TTOC

We can always rely on Midland to throw an incredible NAIDOC event 🖤❤️💛 Yesterday was a sunny, brilliant day connecting with the community and sharing what we offer for Aboriginal women. Events like this remind us of the many services and programs available that are creating safe and healing spaces for the indigenous community. Our Luma stall featured a huge canvas and paints (draping across the table and floor) which turned into one big collaborative arts activity. It was a hit, especially with the kids! Our groups (run for, and by, Aboriginal women) are now scheduled for the rest of 2024. 🔗 More details: https://lnkd.in/g5jepSMQ Thank you Midland NAIDOC, Indigo Junction , City of Swan, community and all the other organisations who made this a memorable NAIDOC. #KeepTheFireBurning 🔥

Good news! 💥 We're excited to be hosting another 9-week course for self-defence workshops, in partnership with Combat Arts Institute of Australia. This empowering 9-week course gives women practical, real-life skills in self-defence. With such positive feedback from the last course, we had to do it again! Every participant said the program increased their confidence to manage their safety, and that they would use the tools in their everyday life. One woman in the course said she already avoided escalation of a difficult situation just by now knowing how to stand outside of someone’s 'power box'. Others commented on how empowering a survival mindset is, including feeling deserving of personal safety. 👏 Please note, this course is open to any current Luma client. Due to our intake capacity, we can't take anyone who isn't already a client. Get in touch with Fiona to find out more: fiona@luma.org.au.

Meet our BEP team! 👋 (Body Esteem Program) Our just team keeps on growing! So our ability to care for people impacted by eating disorders has never been stronger. BEP is made up of seven compassionate mental health workers, who bring their own lived experience of an eating disorder and recovery to their roles. This means they not only support clients from a professional mental health background, but from a real-life understanding too. A common point of feedback from our BEP clients is that being supported by people with lived experience makes a world of difference to their recovery journey. We offer a suite of community-based programs to support everyone - including parents, carers and youth! Free dietetic support is also available to all enrolled (from the lovely Michelle pictured in the long, pink dress). Find out more: https://lnkd.in/gTTvQ2q6
