The Federal Government announced on Wednesday that it will implement a total legislative ban on the use of genetic test results in life insurance underwriting. This is a great win for public health, and something that Lung Foundation Australia and other organisations have been strong advocates for! The use of genetic test results in life insurance underwriting is a major barrier to people accessing genetic testing. For those living with lung cancer, access to genetic testing is vital as it can improve survival outcomes, quality of life, and more. Read the announcement here: https://lnkd.in/gUymx2FH

It's R U OK? Day and Lung Foundation Australia is celebrating in our favourite way... morning tea! Our amazing lung health social worker started the day off with a presentation on the importance of asking R U OK? and understanding that not being ok is ok! We were also excited to share with the team that soon we will have mental health first aid courses available for our staff 💛 Remember to ask R U OK? any day! #ruokanyday #ruokday #ruokday2024

🎶 "blood pressure rising, arteries are tightening! The physical effects of vapes are frightening!" 🎶 Local Darwin students have just release the summer anthem for 2024! We love this banger and the important message it shares. Amazing work from Danila Dilba Health Service and the talented youth members involved 👏
🎤✨ Danila Dilba Health Service has teamed up with local Darwin students to create a rap music video to educate their peers about the dangers of vaping. The lyrics, crafted by these talented young voices, deliver a crucial message… Through their work with kids in schools, the DDHS Tackling Indigenous Smoking (TIS) team have seen first-hand the prevalence of vaping among middle and high school kids. They ran a series of workshops with students from the Clontarf Academy and Stars Foundation to ask them how best to talk to young mob about the dangers of vaping. The result – a rap music video! 🎵💥 DDHS Executive Manager Health Promotion and Program Integration Sharni Cardona said the outcome had far exceeded expectations. “The song lyrics have all been written by these talented students. By sitting down with them and talking through the ingredients in vapes and the clever way they are marketed, the students were able to take this learning and present it in a meaningful way to their peers,” Sharni said. #DangersofVaping #DanilaDilbaHealthService #MusicVideo #TacklingIndigenousSmoking #TIS #OurHealthInOurHands AMSANT

Lung Foundation Australia appreciated the opportunity to describe our lung cancer stigma campaigns in the discussion section of this recently published systematic review conducted by Julia Yamazaki-Tan, Nathan Harrison, Professor Coral Gartner, Kylie Morphett, Henry Marshall and our very own Catherine Runge. With the National Lung Cancer Screening Program launching next July, tackling stigma will be vital to the program’s success. Stigma delays medical help seeking throughout the course of lung cancer and contributes to poor psychological outcomes. Read the paper: https://lnkd.in/gDt7a6Q5
