About us

Mandalay Venture Partners (MVP) is a Seed to Series-A venture capital fund focussed on investing in, and supporting agrifood technology startups (agtech and foodtech). Mandalay's focus on 'farm-to-fork' technologies see our investments ranging from on-farm and farm gate, though the supply chain and point-of-sale with a mission to 'sustainably feed the world's growing population.' MVP stands at the forefront of early-stage investment management as a distinguished venture capital investment fund manager, with its flagship fund, Mandalay Fund I, LP, strategically positioned to fill the existing market void between venture capital and agrifood technology. Mandalay believes that venture-backed innovation is key to addressing the critical challenges of the 21st Century facing the agriculture and food sectors, such as population growth, climate change, resource scarcity and food insecurity. MVP is a venture capital firm dedicated to investing in early-stage agrifood technology companies that have the potential to transform the global food system and deliver compelling financial returns while creating a positive environmental and social impact.

The future of food is now. Making the most of the incredible AgriFutures evokeAG week meant bringing together our likeminded community to taste a sample of our agrifood tech portfolio. It was an evening exploring cutting-edge agrifood technologies, engaging with the trailblazers shaping tomorrow, and celebrating the power of collaboration - accompanied by a bespoke menu: 🥟 canapés with Harvest B, by Land Of Plenty Food Group. 🌯 mains with with B Strong by Harvest B, featuring animal/plant blended meats. 🍫 doughnuts with the world's most healthiest chocolate, Little Victories. 🥂 cocktails highlighting FUL Foods BLU water. The takeaway message is that these ag and food innovations are market-ready and can be adopted today. A massive thanks to our investors, portfolio companies, collaborators, RMS Group, the Mandalay partners and team for bringing this inspiring evening.

There are journalists, and then there are Journalists (note the capitalised J). The Financial Times Nic Fildes is definitely the latter. One of the most comprehensive pieces on the state of the global agtech sector I've seen in a long long while. In this piece, Nic delves into the state of the global agtech sector, why Australia can play an important role, even with our relatively small size globally, who is leading the world in technology adoption and deployment and what's next for Australia. Some cliff notes from Nic's research and article: + Over $200bn has been invested in agtech over the last decade. + Australia, while behind China in investment, leads countries like Japan and South Korea. + Australia’s farming, forestries and fisheries are expected to be worth almost A$100bn this year. + Businesses from overseas are flocking to Australia which is evidenced by the AgriFutures evokeAG conference in Brisbane this year (Feb). + Australia continues to have one of the lowest levels of state support in agriculture compared to the rest of the world. + A focus on practical solutions separates us from the rest of the world. + Asia and the Indo Pacific remains an untapped opportunity for the sector. There are so many reasons we are excited at Mandalay Venture Partners about the future of the sector. Playing a small role in investing in some of the most exciting, tangible and practical startups across Australia and the world is why we do what we do. Our portfolio companies are striving to change food systems for the better, make food security a reality while feeding growing global populations. Keep an eye out for startups like FUL Foods , Agscent, Cropify, Restoke.ai, Haelen Technology, Nbryo, and Harvest B who are driving change and efficiency across food systems. Did you know Australian food production also feeds an estimate 70 million people globally! For those going to AgriFutures evokeAG, please reach out and we would love to speak to you there. It's time to get excited about Australia's next untapped giant, its agriculture and food sector... #agtech #agriculture #food #venturecapital #venture #sustainability #agrifood #technology #business #EvokeAg #MandalayVC https://lnkd.in/gmdX-AjE

Did you know that many artificial food dyes, including Blue Dye #1 (which gives most blue foods their color), pose concerning health risks to humans!? 🙅♂️ 🙅♀️ In fact, blue dyes have been linked to hyperactivity, behavioral issues, and other health concerns. Food Safety News highlights that synthetic dyes have NO nutritional benefits and pose unnecessary risks particularly to children. (Food Safety News). Recently, legislative efforts in California placed a ban on Red Dye #3 and set in motion a movement for safer food, especially in school foods, to better protect kids (Peirson Center for Children). Will blue be next??? This is one of the reasons we developed FUL BLU—a naturally blue, spirulina-based ingredient that delivers a vibrant blue hue while ensuring safer, healthier food options for everyone. 🌍 https://lnkd.in/eCWWCevk Julia Streuli, Sara Guaglio, Cristina Prat, Karen Lacey, Ryan Watt, Emily Tayman, Srishti Khurana, Wico Basson, Sneha Nandan #cleanlabel #fooddye #artificialfooddye #sustainablenutrition

  • 📣 Announcing our latest investment in restaurant intelligence company Restoke.ai Restoke is a platform that integrates with existing restaurant systems to automate operations and provide real-time visibility into key metrics. By leveraging data from costing, inventory, sales and more, Restoke enables restaurant owners and operators to make informed decisions to optimise menus, ordering, food prep and pricing. There's lots to be excited about in the agrifood tech sector, and restaurant + hospitality tech is one of them. It's been rewarding to work with founders Assaf Stizki and Ken Brand as we support their vision, and make our first "downstream" investment. Mandalay Venture Partners participated in Restoke's round alongside Rampersand, Archangels and more. The company currently serves more than 2,000 locations across Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and the US.
