The Marina Industries Association (MIA), founded in 2001, is the peak industry body for the marina industries in Australia, the Asia Pacific and Middle East regions. MIA is the representative body for marinas, slipways, boatyards, berthing, mooring and other marine storage facilities as well as sailing and cruising boating clubs. MIA’s mission is to contribute to the sustainable development of the industry through the promotion of marinas and the provision of education, environmental accreditation and research programs and policies. This is done in conjunction with the Global Marina Institute and the various State Boating Industry Associations.

With fabulous names, like Gem Doris and Sea Pork, hundreds of tiny fantastical sea critters are living their best life below the water's surface at our internationally accredited marina in Port Coogee. 🚤 Underwater surveys have revealed 180 species of non-fish fauna thriving at our popular coastal attraction. While diving, fishing and swimming in the marina are prohibited for safety reasons, we conduct regular habitat surveys to gauge marina health. The latest discoveries included 118 species of Molluscs, Arthropods and Chordates, the three most common groups to be identified at the marina between February 2023-2024. The monitoring program is the latest in a long-term marine biodiversity series completed by Aqua Research & Monitoring Services (ARMS). ARMS marine scientists Glen Whisson and Alexandra Hoschke have completed 44 SCUBA surveys at the marina over the past seven years. Dr Whisson said a total of 281 photographs were used to verify species, including a pair of nudibranchs rarely recorded in WA, and the Blue Button (Cnidaria) which are a sub-tropical species only occasionally seen in southern waters. Our marina received an International Clean Marina Accreditation Level 3 through the Marina Industries Association in 2018.
