I was delighted to join Fr Des, students and staff at St Margaret’s Primary School Marybyrnong last week for the official opening and blessing of their great new facilities. Sincere thanks to Member for Footscray Katie Hall for joining with us for this special moment, and to the Victorian Government for its capital support - which combines with parental contributions to enable Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools to continue to cater for the growing demand for Catholic education.

Today is International Literacy Day. MACS supports ESL students, and empowers more students with access to second language education, including: 🙌 The ‘Teachers as Co-learners’ initiative which supports delivery of Auslan, French, Italian and Indonesian. 🙌 The ‘Teaching Young Children English in Multicultural Contexts’ program. 🙌 Our Learning Diversity team, dedicated to supporting differing learning needs including language requirements. Over 120 educators attended the MACS eSafety Summit at Marvel Stadium today, where eSafety Commissioner, Frankston SOCIT Detectives, and digital expert and researcher Dr Joanne Orlando shared information and resources to support MACS schools’ risk-informed approach to technology in our almost 300 schools across the Archdiocese. Students learn best when they feel safe. We thank all of our speakers and attendees today for remaining informed so as to enable students to flourish in a fast-evolving technology environment. In his opening remarks, MACS Executive Director, Dr Edward Simons reminded us that it's our responsibility to speak with our hearts, and remind our children that we are what we communicate. "We can be lanterns, reminders, and guides through the darkness by using heartfelt communication and truth," he said. #MACSmorethaneducation #melbournecatholicschools #esafetycommissioner #digitalliteracy
