Janet Rhodes, Mercy Community’s Executive General Manager for Residential Aged Care said around 270 Mercy Community employees currently support 350 older people in Central Queensland through our full range of aged care services, with demand likely to increase by 50% over the next decade. “Australians are not only living longer but, as recent research suggests, we’re also out-living most people in English-speaking OECD countries. “As the average life expectancy continues to grow, so too does demand for aged care services and people willing to work in the sector to provide the services needed, including registered nurses where we know there is a nation-wide shortage. “With around 2,500* people in Rockhampton currently looking for work and more Queenslanders over the age of 65 living in the Capricorn region than any other part of the state, there’s never been a better time or place to explore a career in aged care and make a difference in your community.” Mercy Community believes in building a world where people, families and communities are strong in spirit, healthy and connected. For Child Protection Week 2024 Mercy Community, in partnership with Uniting Care, Act for Kids, Anglicare and Lifeline applied for the Queensland Child Protection Week grant and were successful in the application. This is the fourth year running that early intervention services have collaborated to deliver child protection week activities with the goal of increasing safety and overall wellbeing and strengthening connections between the early intervention services. As part of the same funding grant we were able to run two Family Fun Days, one in Toowoomba and one in Warwick. We invited services working in the early intervention and family support sector including Child Safety to come along and set up a stall as an opportunity to connect with families and introduce themselves in a fun setting. We provided a free petting zoo, face painter and pony rides as well as a free sausage sizzle which was cooked by Carbal Medical Services. The event was extremely well received and well attended by both communities, in particular the Warwick community. This was an excellent day for families to be able to come and meet some of the programs that operate in their area, but also for staff at those agencies to do some networking.  #Childprotection #Childprotectionweek #earlyintervention #earlyinterventionservices #queenslandchildprotection

First Nations staff from across Queensland gathered for two days last week on Turrabal Country (Nudgee) to undertake accredited Family Group Conference Training (FGC). The training was delivered by Australian Family Group Conferencing and Assessments founder Mel Brown and expert FGC facilitator Karen Dixon. The training will equip all participants to convene family group meetings supporting casework and empowering families to be involved in decisions about their children. #FirstNations #FirstNation #Aboriginal #Indigenous

It's full speed ahead for induction sessions. Yes, we’ve kick-started online induction training for all new starters to Mercy Community. Learning and Development Partner, Ashton Goy, says these sessions are a great way to help new starters gain a solid understanding of our organisation. “I’m super proud to have had the opportunity to work on and roll-out the new induction sessions across Mercy Community.” “This whole experience has been so rewarding and I just hope new employees feel the same after attending. I mean, it’s a different kind of reward to that I get from the track on my Yamaha MT-09, but still, the experience so far has been awesome!” Best of all, Ashton says he gets to meet every new team member from across the entire organisation which has given him a new-found appreciation for the talent and diversity of our workforce. Why not join Ashton and the team? Mercy Community has jobs available now at our Residential Aged Care facilities in Rockhampton. Generous incentives and benefits are on offer. At Mercy Community we strive to provide the best possible service for the people we support. One of the ways we ensure this is by developing our team and providing them with the skills and capabilities to lead. That is why our Operational Leadership Team recently embarked on a Leadership Excellence and Development (L.E.A.D) program. This course is designed to equip our developing and established leaders with the necessary tools and knowledge to make strategic decisions, effectively lead teams and drive organisational success. Together they will learn about different leadership styles, communication techniques, conflict resolution strategies and the most effective ways to motivate and empower their own team. Through interactive workshops and group discussions, our team members are not only gaining theoretical knowledge but also practical experience in applying leadership principles in real-world scenarios. We wish our participants all the best in starting this exciting journey and look forward to watching their continued development as leaders and the positive impact they will have on the people we support and Mercy Community as a whole. #SocialCareSolutions #Leadership #Training #PersonalDevelopment #Management #Leadership #MercyCommunity
