Achieving better, healthier outcomes for premature and sick newborns and their families.

About us

Miracle Babies Foundation is Australia’s leading not-for-profit organisation that supports premature and sick newborns, their families and the hospitals that care for them. Every year in Australia around 48,000 newborn babies require the help of a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) or Special Care Nursery (SCN). 25,000 of these babies are born premature and up to 1000 babies lose their fight for life. For families, the experience of having a baby come into the world not as expected or planned is life changing. Without support, this overwhelming and traumatic experience can have lifelong effects on the emotional wellbeing of these miracle families. It affects the entire family unit. Since 2005, Miracle Babies Foundation has been passionate in developing and providing vital programs and resources to support and enhance a family’s experience from a threatened pregnancy, hospital journey with a premature or sick newborn, the transition to home and beyond.

  • Thank you to The Hon. Mike Freelander MP for his time and support today as we continue to advocate for Additional Paid Parental Leave for families impacted by a premature or sick birth. With the significant stress experienced and the impact of this on families emotionally and financially during this time, Miracle Babies Foundation is committed to continuing the conversation to achieve greater support for families going through this challenging journey.   “Every day in my role as consultant RN in the Neonatal Intensive and Special Care unit I see parents that are impacted financially and professionally by the sudden, unexpected preterm birth of their baby. Both mothers and fathers juggle meeting the comfort and safety parenting needs of their preterm hospitalised infant, and the financial pressure that requires them to continue to work during this very stressful, demanding time”. - Megan Bater Thank you to all Members of Parliament that have and continue to support our call for changes to the Australian Government Paid Parental Leave Scheme. Having a premature baby can be life changing. For parents, as well as the child as they develop. My daughter Scarlet, born at just 25 weeks gestation has experienced and lived through many of these challenges. Now at 20 years old some challenges continue to impact her life, in particular her eyesight. We share some of her story in this article https://lnkd.in/gf4CrbFY

Last weekend, Hyundai Help for Kids, partner of Miracle Babies Foundation, together with Sydney Roosters invited children and families supported by Miracle Babies for a special VIP experience on 7 July for the Roosters v Dragons at Allianz stadium. The families had an amazing time participating in the guard of honour at half time and walking on the field in front of a packed stadium. Some of the miracle families that attended included Baby Zahra who was born at 35 weeks, Baby Reggie who was born at 27 weeks, Harry who was born at 24 weeks, Lucia who was born at 25 weeks and Charlie who was born at 23 weeks. Thank you for coming along to enjoy the day with us. Miracle Babies was also the chosen charity for the 50-50 Charity Raffle with more than $11,000 raised! 50% of these funds were donated to Miracle Babies to support our NurtureProgram Resources and Services. Thank you to our wonderful volunteers for joining us on the day. Thank you to Hyundai Help for Kids, Sydney Roosters and 50-50 Charity Raffle for the incredible support and for allowing our families to enjoy a wonderful experience.
