WA's trusted name in using Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) to treat depression & more | Perth, Australia

About us

Modalis - Specialists in TMS Modalis offers non-invasive MRI-guided Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) that can improve the treatment options for many conditions, including psychiatric conditions (depression, OCD, PTSD), pain management, and rehabilitation. We are the leading name in MRI-guided TMS in Western Australia, and strive to make TMS treatment as accessible as possible for patients with minimal waiting times and a range of locations available across the metro area. TMS Therapy has many advantages over other treatments including higher success rates, a superior safety profile and is drug free. It is generally well-tolerated and associated with few side-effects. TMS Therapy has also been found to be effective in patients that have not responded to previous treatments. If you're considering making referral for one of your patients or would simply like to learn more about TMS Therapy, please get in touch. Our friendly staff are happy to answer all of your questions. Referrals can be made via a standard referral letter, through the Oqea portal, or the referral form on our website. ... Introducing the WA TMS Training Program! In collaboration with the University of Western Australia and The Perron Institute for Neurological and Translational Science, we are proud to be running the WA TMS Training course. Run as a micro-credential through UWA twice per year, this RANZCP-accredited course is suitable for all health practitioners and researchers who wish to learn more about TMS and/or apply TMS in their work. What does Modalis do? What is TMS and how does it work? Check out the video below to hear the answer to these questions and more. ⬇️ Mental illness is on the rise around the world, including here in Australia. Psychiatry is evolving, with new therapeutic options continuing to emerge. Neurostimulation remains a promising area of focus, with non-invasive brain stimulation techniques gaining ground world-wide. At Modalis, we offer Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (known as TMS). This technique offers an additional treatment option for patients suffering from depression, and can also complement other clinical therapies already in place. TMS provides a safe, convenient, and drug-free treatment option, with minimal side effects. TMS for depression currently has an approximately 50-60% clinical response rate, which is comparable (or even better) than other psychopharmacological treatments available. Currently, TMS is TGA approved for the treatment of depression in patients that do not significantly respond to psychotherapy or antidepressant medications. However, research into other psychiatric and neurological conditions continues to emerge. We are currently the only TMS clinic in Western Australia to use MRI-guided neuronavigation – a technique that utilises a patient’s individual MRI scans to create a 3D model of the brain that allows for the placement of the TMS coil over the target region of the brain (in real-time!). TMS Research 📚🧠 Here at Modalis we are proud to have ongoing collaborations with UWA and the @PerronInstitute, with multiple exciting research projects currently being hosted within our clinics. 📋 Researchers from Perron Institute & UWA are currently recruiting participants for their study investigating a better understanding of the effects of TMS on the brains of young adults and adolescents. People who are aged 15 – 24 years old, are diagnosed with depression, and have not had TMS before may be eligible to participate. 👉 What does participation involve? Participation in the study involves receiving a standard protocol of TMS (as a treatment for depression) at our Modalis Stirling clinic, plus attending three sessions at Perron to have an MRI, and complete some computer tasks and questionnaires. All out-of-pocket MRI and TMS treatment costs will be covered by the Perron Institute in reimbursement for participating. By conducting this study, the goal is to contribute knowledge towards further personalising TMS treatment based on each person’s individual brain activity to improve response as well as establish TMS’s place as a treatment option for depression in youth in Australia. 🔬 If you are interested in receiving more information on this research, please contact the research team at the Perron Institute by emailing tms@perron.uwa.edu.au, or chat to one of our clinicians at Modalis. #tmsaustralia #tms #brainstimulation #transcranialmagneticstimulation #repetitivetranscranialmagneticstimulation #rtms #neuroscienceaustralia #perthbusiness #mentalhealthau #subiaco

World Alzheimer’s Day – September 21st 2024 🌍🧠 This month we recognise #WorldAlzheimer’sMonth, with today also marking #WorldAlzheimer’sDay. These two events highlight the importance of spreading awareness about this condition, and the need to continue to work towards treatments to alleviate symptoms and hopefully one day prevent or reverse it altogether. Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia and affects up to 1 in 10 Australians over 65 years of age. It can cause issues with memory, thinking, and behaviour, with advanced progression of the disease resulting in the need for continuous daily care. There are currently no cures for Alzheimer’s disease, although there are some treatment methods that can help to temporarily alleviate some of the symptoms. Did you know? There have been multiple studies in the literature exploring the potential of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) in providing relief and enhancing the quality of life for individuals affected by Alzheimer’s. While this is still an emerging and ongoing area of study, we hope that current and future studies can pave the way toward a better understanding of this challenging condition and offer hope for more effective treatment options in the future. 💐 Our doors are always open if you have any questions about TMS. Call our team on (08) 6166 3733 for more information. #tms #tmstherapy #tmsaustralia #rtms #transcranialmagneticstimulation #repetitivetranscranialmagneticstimulation #brainstimulation #neuroscienceaustralia #perthclinic #perth
