Australia Defends FIM Oceania Women’s Motocross Cup in Nail-Biting Finale Team Australia has held onto the FIM (Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme) Oceania Women’s Motocross Cup, clinching victory by just two points (77-79) over a relentless Team USA in a thrilling showdown at Wonthaggi (March 22-23). Australian Captain Charli Cannon led the charge with a perfect three-moto sweep, supported by teammates Taylah McCutcheon, Taylor Thompson, Madison Healey, and rookie Madi Simpson. Team USA, featuring standout rides from Jordan Jarvis and Lachlan Turner, pushed the hosts to the limit in a battle that came down to the final race. New Zealand secured third place, while debutants Team Africa showed grit and determination in a hard-fought fourth. The event, held alongside Round 1 of the 2025 Penrite Oil ProMX Championship presented by AMX Superstores, underscored the rising calibre of women’s motocross in Australia. The event was supported by the Victorian Government's Significant Sporting Events Program and the Bass Coast Shire Council. Casey Stoner Elevated to Legend Status in Australian Motorsport Hall of Fame The Australian Motorsport Hall of Fame has honoured six new inductees at this year’s ceremony during the Formula 1® Australian Grand Prix, with two-time MotoGP World Champion Casey Stoner elevated to Legend status – the highest accolade in Australian motorsport. Stoner joins an elite group of Australian motorsport legends, including Sir Jack Brabham, Mick Doohan, and Alan Jones, in recognition of his extraordinary career. With 38 Grand Prix wins, six consecutive victories at Phillip Island, and World Championships in 2007 and 2011, Stoner’s legacy is unparalleled. His retirement at 27 left a lasting impact, and his contributions to the sport continue to inspire. Additionally, Jess Gardiner, Tayla Jones, and Jemma Wilson – known as ‘The Matildas of Motorcycling’ – were recognised for their incredible achievements. The trio claimed five consecutive Women’s International Six Day Enduro (ISDE) world titles from 2013 to 2017, solidifying Australia’s reputation as a powerhouse in enduro racing. Also inducted was Chad Reed, two-time AMA Supercross champion and one of Australia’s most successful motocross and supercross riders. Reed’s 20-year career saw him dominate on three continents, and he remains a respected figure in global motorsport.
