Join us in congratulating our fourth-year painting and decorating apprentice, Lachlan Pike, a finalist in the upcoming Apprentice Employment Network WA Awards for Excellence. Lachlan has been shortlisted for the Apprentice of the Year category in a tight competition. Reflecting on his apprenticeship journey, Lachlan shared, "The apprenticeship has not only equipped me with valuable skills for work, but it’s also shaped my personal life. I have learned to be more mindful in how I structure my day and complete tasks. Working in a team has helped me develop interpersonal skills, and I have become more open-minded and teachable in various areas. This experience has truly changed the way I approach all aspects of my life’.

October is National Safe Work Month, an initiative led by Safe Work Australia to promote the importance of Work Health and Safety (WHS). WHS practices are a crucial component of both training and employment at MPA Skills. These practices are introduced in the first week of pre-apprenticeship training and remain a key focus throughout the apprenticeship, both on campus and on-site. #SafetyIsEveryonesBusiness #NationalSafeWorkMonth

Painting trainers Aiden McElvaney and Stephen Delaney recently had a unique opportunity to upskill, thanks to Master Painters & Decorators Australia [MP&DA]. They attended a workshop on modern applications of Liquid Metals and Microestil Microcement at Choice Building Products. Both trainers noted that the new knowledge will undoubtedly enhance several of our existing training units. Many thanks to MP&DA and Choice Building Products for making this possible, and we look forward to incorporating these skills into our training programs. Here is a full video that captures the session - https://lnkd.in/gtbK6bjG

MPA Skills / Skill Hire trainers Stephen Delaney and Aiden McElvaney had a great day out at Choice Building Products learning about the new coatings available in Liquid Metals and Microestil Microcement. This will carry through to the training of apprentices and help encourage the artisan aspects of the trade going forward. It is heartening to realise the opportunities available to the WA painting & decorating industry through MP&DA’s partnership with our dedicated partners. If any MP&DA members are interested in upcoming workshops in these fantastic products, contact Mark at markg@masterpainters.asn.au or on 0448 950 58.

MPA Skills would like to raise awareness for mesothelioma on mesothelioma awareness day! Mesothelioma primarily affects the lining of the lungs and is often diagnosed years after exposure to asbestos, a material once widely used in construction and manufacturing. As part of our training, we have a course unit on asbestos awareness in which apprentices are informed about these risks and the importance of safety measures to protect their health on the job. Share this post, educate others about the dangers of asbestos, and support organisations fighting for mesothelioma research and patient care. #MesotheliomaAwareness #AsbestosAwareness #CancerAwareness #SupportSurvivors
