Over 70 people across industry turned out yesterday for the NAIC and Standards Australia event in Melbourne. The session explored the latest standards to support responsible AI practice across Australia. NAIC Acting Director Brett Szmajda outlined safe and responsible AI initiatives to support practice change across Australian industry. We’ve also been consulting on version 2 of the Voluntary AI Safety Standard (VAISS) which extends best-practices to AI developers. Soon we'll roll out new guidance which outlines steps that businesses can take to improve transparency of AI-generated content. Jonathan Hatch took the audience through ISO:42001 - where the rubber hits the road on AI standards in industry practice. Integrating leadership, planning, performance evaluation and ongoing improvement is key. Big thanks to the team at Seek for hosting discussions here in Melbourne today! It was also great to hear about SEEK’s own responsible AI approach from Fernando Mourão. Perth workshop is coming soon, so stay tuned! 📷 left to right: Alex Snelson, Jonathan Hatch, Bridget Farmer, Brett Szmajda, Fernando Mourão. #AIAustralia #ArtificialIntelligence #ResponsibleAI

Guardrail 7 of the Australian Voluntary AI Safety Standard (VAISS) supports fairness in AI decisions. Organisations should create clear processes for people to challenge AI-driven decisions. This means explaining how AI works and offering ways to raise concerns or request reviews. Integrate these processes into risk management and assign accountability for handling disputes. Work with suppliers to agree on processes for resolving AI-related issues. Guardrail 7 helps build trust by ensuring AI decisions remain transparent and contestable.
