Supporting all levels of government to take coordinated, comprehensive, and consistent action to prevent suicide.
About us
The National Suicide Prevention Office (NSPO) was established in January 2022 to provide strategic policy advice to all parts and levels of government on the actions required to enhance protective factors, address the social determinants of suicide, intervene early in distress, and provide integrated, coordinated and compassionate care for those experiencing suicidality or suicidal crisis. The NSPO will work across governments, portfolios, and sectors to drive the development of a nationally consistent and integrated approach to suicide prevention. The NSPO will also build capacity and capability within governments and government agencies to increase safety and security, intervene early, and respond effectively by enhancing the scope and consistency of data collection, refining approaches to populations disproportionately affected by suicide, identifying research and translation gaps, and monitoring and reporting on national progress. The NSPO is staffed by a team of ten who share a core value and commitment to work in partnership with people with a lived experience of suicide. We recognise that to achieve an Australia where all people feel supported to be well, free from risk of suicide and receive the right supports, at the right time, it is critical that all aspects of our work is informed by those whose lives have been touched by suicide. To register to be involved in our project consultations, please visit: https://haveyoursay.mentalhealthcommission.gov.au/hub-page/nspo The NSPO does not provide crisis support. If you, or someone you know needs support, please call Lifeline: 13 11 14 or Beyond Blue: 1300 22 46 36
