What a privilege to have hosted the Trans - Tasman Business Circle (TTBC) Women Leaders' Study Tour at NEC Corporation’s Headquarters in Tokyo last week! During their visit to the NEC Future Creation Hub, we showcased our latest innovations in biometrics, quantum computing, digital government, AI, and more, sparking conversations on leadership, diversity, sustainability, and technology’s transformative impact on the future. A highlight of the visit was the panel discussion featuring NEC Australia's own Vice President Ayala Domani, alongside NEC's Corporate Senior Vice Presidents, Mayuko Tatewaki and Yuka Shigesawa. They had a powerful dialogue on DEI and NEC’s commitment to advancing more women into senior executive roles, and shared interesting insights on how prominent Japanese companies navigating the global stage through innovation and inclusion. Led by Debra Hazelton GAICD, the Women Leaders' Study Tour brought together inspiring women leaders from across Australia and New Zealand for an enriching week in Japan. The program included visits to Kyoto and Tokyo, packed with business meetings, site visits, and cultural experiences. Special thanks to Tatewaki-san and Shigesawa-san for their invaluable insights and for making the tour of NEC Headquarters truly memorable. We’re also grateful to Alicia White and everyone who contributed to this visit’s success, including Mariko Kurebayashi, Noritada Yasumoro, Kuanyi Twang, and Yada Kazuhiro. 🚀 Our very own Tithi Roy was a panellist at the PTAANZ Annual Conference yesterday! 🚀 Tithi captivated the audience with her unique take on AI, offering a fresh perspective on how to explain it casually, making a complex topic refreshingly simple: "AI is like teaching machines to learn from human knowledge and experience—making decisions based on data, without ever needing a coffee break!" ☕ She emphasised that while AI excels in processing enormous data sets tirelessly, it lacks emotional understanding and ethical judgment. But, just as humans face fatigue and cognitive limitations, AI’s speed and consistency open new doors. The key takeaway? AI is only as good as the quality of data and algorithms behind it. 💡 Tithi also explored impactful use cases of AI in the transport industry, an area where NEC is actively contributing: • Safety & Security: AI supports solutions for challenges like bus driver shortages through preventive maintenance, incident management, and collision avoidance. • Road Condition Monitoring: Real-time insights to improve road safety and maintenance. • Traffic and Bus Service Optimisation: AI predicts travel times accurately, optimises traffic signals, and reduces wait times and overcrowding. • Automated Inspection & Inventory Management: Streamlining operational efficiency. From intelligent traffic signals in the '90s to autonomous metros in 2024, AI and transportation have evolved hand-in-hand. With initiatives like Sydney’s driverless metro, AI is paving the way for the future. ✨ "The possibilities are endless and limited only by imagination," Tithi said, encouraging us to start small with pilot projects, demonstrate tangible benefits, and then scale up. We are proud of Tithi’s inspiring insights and the role NEC plays in shaping the future of transport. 👏 #PTAANZ #AI #ArtificialIntelligence #TransportationTech #NEC #SmartTransport
