Congratulations to the ABC team behind this article. I hope the APVMA will take heed of this; their recent conclusion “that the weight of evidence does not support that Paraquat is neurotoxic” is not the only factor here. There is ample doubt about the safety of Paraquat and I find it incredulous that the “precautionary principle” is not being used here. In a book, “A prescription for Ending Parkinson’s disease” published in 2020, 4 leading PD experts support the banning of Paraquat based on numerous lines of data. The MJ Fox Foundation strongly supports a ban. The Netherlands banned Paraquat a number of years ago, and is now the only country in the world where the rate of PD is declining. I am not an expert in pesticides and I don’t know what impact a ban might cause to farmers, but surely it can be is bad as living with PD.

Neurofibromatosis WA’s monthly Support Group provides ongoing support and connection for individuals and families affected by Neurofibromatosis. This National Stroke Week, the focus is on raising awareness about the impact of strokes and the importance of early detection and prevention. Strokes can happen to anyone at any time, but knowing the signs and taking proactive steps can save lives. Patients who arrive at an ER within the first 3 hours of their first stroke symptoms tend to have fewer disabilities 3 months after a stroke than those who delayed seeking care.
